I wonder what prevents everyone from using this? It must be that Ticketmaster charges artists to use the service? Idk, but clearly there's ways to actually prevent scalpers (credit card entry, name on tickets, this, etc etc), but these methods are rarely used.

  2. Yeah, I might actually have a ticket for Chicago if they had done that for the whole tour.

    Two Reasons:

    A. In order for this to work, you have to make tickets nontransferrable, which is a pain in the ass for customers attending in a group.

    B. Ticketmaster profits from the clusterf*ck resale market. They take a commission from everything sold through their resale market, the market confusion allows them to upcharge via dynamic pricing, a vibrant scalping scene means more shows will sell out, etc. Not even to mention all the shady ways LiveNation staff/employees have been exposed to be personally affiliated with ticket brokers.

First time hearing of that option with Ticketmaster, interesting.

Well, I imagine Paramore are the ones who requested these measures to be implemented (because like you said, Ticketmaster has no problem with shows going on sale as normal), which in turn, makes me assume that the artists have a choice to either ask for these measures to be implemented or have the show go on sale as normal. I understand all the benefits ticketmaster gets from not implementing any measures, but clearly there are times where they make exceptions. I wonder when they make those exceptions and if it's preceded by an artist asking and if so, I'm curious if artists just don't ask enough or if they get denied most of the time from implementing measures.

Imagine there's only a minority of artists with enough sway to be able to make the request really. Or with enough industry connections to be able to get it done.

Think it’s totally possible they saw what was happening with the shows already announced and took steps to correct it?

This feels like a pretty extreme reaction. Maybe they’ve seen how bad it’s gotten and knew they needed to get something done for this show and future shows. I doubt they can go back and change the shows that are already on sale.

There are tons of big artists who don’t take any measures. Instead of being outraged they didn’t do something sooner, why don’t we appreciate the fact that they’re trying to find solutions now.

Being mad they could have prevented ticket prices reaching literally more than $1000 a piece at a venue I’ve paid $50 or less to see them at multiple times (at the peak of their popularity) and didn’t is not “extreme” lol.

Nah I read it all. I don’t care about your hypothetical for why they did it for these shows and I agree they probably can’t do anything about the shows they already sold. Doesn’t change the fact that I still think it’s fucked up they didn’t do this from the jump if it was available.

Yeah I saw someone on Twitter complaint about the price. It’s definitely for those that value seeing the band in an intimate setting. If it wasn’t a Thursday I would have already signed up for it.

I was wondering this too when i saw it. Artists can request this? Why don't more mega artists? I get you'd maybe have to have some level of sway to request it but there are tons of huge acts whose tickets get scalped at wild rates Why isn't this implemented more?? I'm def curious too. Does their label get a cut of scalped tickets or something? Like taylor swift opts to have high prices to counter scalpers (if I understand correctly) so why doesn't she do this instead? Also I'm in a public place and cant listen to audio rn so if the video Steve posted answers this specific question, don't mind me!!

I just watched it and it basically just reiterated what's been said - it's in Ticketmaster's best interest for reselling to continue because they can make a profit.

He also addresses how there have been about at least 12 other artists have asked Ticketmaster for help in scalping their own tickets. So it does seem like there are some artists out there as who are asking the exact opposite question I'm proposing them to ask:crylaugh:

He ends the video talking about Pearl Jam and how they worked with Ticketmaster to create what Paramore is doing for the LA show and making tickets non-transferrable.

So basically, yeah, it's about artists asking the question (hopefully the right one) and whether or not they have the clout to enforce things.

But like you said, I don't understand why popular tours (who have artists with clout headlining), don't choose to do this. If Paramore has the pull, surely vastly more popular pop artists have the pull too. So my assumption stands - either the artists aren't asking or Ticketmaster charges the artist to use these methods and therefore, most don't want to take on that cost. Maybe this is why the Paramore LA shows are as expensive as they are? Because they weren't $135 without fees anywhere else.
