Not exactly horror, but I'm watching Red Eye for the first time in probably a decade and it's really silly and fun. Casting is so good

Two days later and I can't stop thinking about Barbarian

Yeah I’ve been thinking about Barbarian all morning.

There are like four brilliant cuts in that movie I’ve never seen a horror movie have, direction was great between different scenes, terrifying realistic at times but terrifying batshit insane and unrealistic others, just a really fun movie. Never expected a single that happened.

Yeah talking about A24 Lamb! Planning on finishing it this evening. You're bang on about it being slow though. It looks absolutely gorgeous, but it really did trundle along for that first chapter.

Not sure what to make about Lamb yet, but I'll have a firmer opinion when I finish it later. There really isn't very much dialogue for the opening 40 minutes and it does a lot of storytelling without any words in just the environment and body language. I'm enjoying it so far, but don't recommend watching it if you feel remotely tired as you will undoubtedly nod off.

Crimes of the Future was absolutely unhinged. I loved the tone and was captivated by how alien it all felt.

I had a funny moment going into the cinema too where a woman I didn't know just said "You're fucking brave." for daring to have a box of popcorn. She wasn't wrong. I barely touched it :crylaugh:

Bodies Bodies Bodies was a nice change of pace afterwards. I went in to both movies blind so it was a lot funnier than I was expecting it to be. I finished off the popcorn happily during that viewing.

  11. The Walmart Halloween DVD covers are out! Snagged Beetlejuice and the Final Destination collection, plus a copy of Spiral.

My wife and I saw barbarian last night. Absolutely loved it. I asked my wife what she thought and she said “it was interesting”, so I asked if she liked it and she said “I think so” lol

if you like horror, I think you’ll like this. Do not read or look anything up before going

Wish Walmart did Blu-rays as well. The covers are usually fun but I don’t buy dvds anymore.

  15. A lot of collections. The Conjuring 7-pack, Child's Play 7-pack, Nightmare on Elm Street 8-pack, Jurassic Park 5-pack, Candyman double-feature. Some Universal Monster originals.

My Final Destination packaging was butt though :( just three DVDs stacked in a single holder lol

Hmmm might grab the Nightmare collection.

Guess that's the downside of them being so cheap lol

Orphan: First Kill twist was excellent. The movie was a lot of fun. Better than I expected.

I wanted to watch Barbarian but we went with Orphan since it's the older movie and was free with our rewards card. Can't wait to watch Barbarian next weekend. Comparisons to Malignant have me crazy excited.

  18. Reporting after last night. Urban Legend still rules, I don't think it's as much of a Scream rip-off as critics say (even if that film is inarguably in its DNA).

I don't think Spiral is great or anything, but it is kinda based lol and pretty easily the best Saw film after Saw II IMHO. Rock does a really good job with a relatively generic script.

Lastly, I don't think I'm a Gareth Edwards fan. I know it's cliche to complain about pacing or not showing enough, but I'm watching Monsters and 1) I can't see shit during the night-time scenes, and 2) when you try to combine romance, politics, and monsters, you really oughta do at least one of them well. Realism is overrated! Show us your creature design!

  19. Aw I liked Monsters. Definitely a lot less horror-y than something like Annihilation, though.

  20. Yeah I can see the appeal, not trying to yuck anyone's yum, just not the kind of movie I'm really into. Bonus points for that last scene, though

In the mood for more terrible early '90s direct to video stuff, any suggestions?

I remembered this one, I think it actually played in theaters, but it looks pretty great:

It ain't 90s, but it certainly delivers on 90s vibes.

Me and my mates used to deliberately pick awful looking DVDs from Blockbuster when we were teenagers and bring them over someone's house pretending we'd heard great things about the movie. Cutthroat Alley was the undisputed low point.

"Boyz 'n' the Hood meets Scream" is the tagline and that is all you need to know.
