My favorite TV memories are when LOST was on the air, and after each episode you’d spend a week obsessing over the episode and speculating what was coming next week.

I’d love for that to come back, but the problem is there’s just too much tv now to distract you. I could spend my week theorizing and hyping up next weeks Lost episode because I really only watched 2 other shows at the time. Now with all these streaming services I’ve got a list of like 40 shows I need to catch up on. The weekly format would just have them get drowned out imo

LOST is why I hate prolonging fan discussion. I waded through so so so many just awful illogical fan “theories.” I was praying for the end to come faster so it would stop and there would be no more predicting theories. The predictions people made for the show were almost universally trash.

LOST just brought out the dumbest ideas out of people. No other show has annoyed me with this type of constant spewing of foolishness. Part of that may be that LOST was largely unpredictable by the way it was written. And today, with all the leaks that happen, theories are generally closer to true as it’s based on actual knowledge of what may happen.

Lost is the perfect example of why I want to binge lol I hated the discourse on that show and after all the wait and speculation it ended up being really dumb. See we all like different things and putting the episodes out for everyone to enjoy at their own pace gives you all the options

GOT was a fun weekly wait because of the phenomenon it became but having the books around helped keep the discourse grounded for the most part. Excluding the last season which was just a disaster.

Lost is good, but i binged it. I think it allowed me to get past this obsession with the “lore” and “answers” that people who watched it live seem to have been obsessed with, and instead see it as a sweet meditation on a bunch of different concepts.

Leftovers was a better distilled version of Lost though. Still probably my favorite show.

basically because of binge watching Netflix gives their algorithm a few weeks to determine if a show is a success or not so presumably every show has to be tailored to being an immediate hit which doesn't seem very fun

That seems like an evaluation flaw not a binge flaw

LOST is my favorite show and having theories and discussions and looking forward to new episodes every week is one of the few things that kept me alive during my messed up family life during my high school years. I even wrote fan fic and posted it on fanfic.net in between seasons lol. And yeah, the AP threads were a lotta fun.

the Amphibia s2 finale was wayyy more intense than I was expecting. holy shit, waiting a year after that woulda been torture

also, the song the girls play in Battle of the Bands is unironically a banger, I want it on my phone

I had to bite my tongue and hold off on saying anything more after you mentioned not really feeling it as much with season one because, yeah, the season two finale is something else and the third season is the best.

it started getting good around the first full Sasha episode, I thought, but s2 is really where it got *great*. the travelogue/quest structure was such a smart way to give the one-off episodes a bit more structure, and it's so much more confident in its storytelling. Marcy was such a great addition to the main cast too

think I still prefer The Owl House by a hair - the world design and character work is so fucking good - but Amphibia might sneak up there if the last season is the best
