    Enjoyed my first two spins.

Will have to pay attention to the lyrics next time through. My biggest gripe with WTDWYAD is the lyrics are so whiny and ‘woe is me’ that it’s hard to listen to (same for a lot of albums of that era) but feel like the lyrics here are probably better, as would be expected for people 15+ years older than the guys who wrote Dead.

  4. 2 songs left. I think they released a couple of the best songs from the album. I really like about half of it, but I definitely need to keep jamming it. I can tell one listen won't be enough. But I'd say it's a step under the first 2 albums, but better than Smile, for suuuure.

I enjoyed this on a first listen. Sounds like classic Armor for Sleep. That's about all I have to say about it.

Definitely like this as an album experience as opposed to poaching some singles

Solid first listen. Its amazing how good they sound after such a long break. My only real complaint is how it sounds SO clean. More of a taste thing than a real issue, especially since they've always been a pretty polished sounding band. Excited to spend more time with this one.

Just noticed that the vinyl on Amazon got delayed until 10/21. Did the pre orders through equal vision also get delayed?

  9. Must’ve because I haven’t received any shipping info yet

I get it, but these vinyl delays are killing me. There are bunch of albums I want to pick up on vinyl, but I don't feel like dropping $100 on records I won't get for two months.

Also sort of weird the label didn’t provide an update to those that preorder. I’m fine waiting but let us know!

Also, this album is going to be sooo great for rainy nights in the fall.

Futures by Jimmy Eat World will gladly be accompanied by new Armor For Sleep this fall.

I'm an AFS fan and have been for a long time, but the vocals have always been hit or miss for me. A lot of the songs sound very one note melody-wise. I definitely hear an improvement with melody and vocal delivery on this one. Gonna need a few more listens, but I like what i'm hearing so far.

I’ve listened to this once so far on a run, and my initial reaction is meh. There are some cool guitar parts but the vocals aren’t doing it for me. Maybe I’m just not used to how his voice sounds after 15 years, but it almost sounds like they overpolished the vocals of someone who can’t sing. The new senses fail record had some pretty polished vocals but at least they sound unique.

I want to dive into the lyrics before I make a final judgement, but I was hoping for something more. When I heard the first two records, I was hooked immediately so this is a bummer. I’ll probably wait until the vinyl comes in to listen again

  19. I'm sorry but some of you gotta learn to not pass judgement on the day of release lol. Kind of the point of a forum, I know

I'm digging it after a few spins. Doesn't have me jumping out of my seat or anything, but it's damn solid for a band who's been out of the game for a couple decades. In particular, I'm really liking the bass work on a lot of these songs

It’s sort of wild seeing it compared to an album that came out over 15 years ago haha.. I think it’s gonna take time before I know where it sits but I think it’s a solid addition to their discography and I’m very happy the record exists.

I personally don’t mind admitting that my first take is off if I end up changing my mind. I don't think there’s anything wrong with sharing your initial reaction to something, especially after waiting 15 years. I agree it would be silly to listen once, say it’s not for me, then move on.

  23. I don’t think that’s silly. You usually can tell if something is gonna be a grower, or if something just isn’t for you.

that is true. I meant more in the context of waiting 15 years for an album and writing it off right away.

“Rather Drown” is definitely within my top 5 AFS songs.
