Yeah i think they tried to market it as a humane alternative to Horse/dog racing for gambling, which is guess is kind of cool but still just isn't the same.

Honestly, heading into the PPV it felt like AEW needed a reset...they unintentionally got one. The build from Grand Slam -> Full Gear seems like it'll be good

Man, this is a great point. Especially when one of them is basically the #2 most used "we're tired of this shit" chant in the wrestling world (#1 being the "What")

I used to know a few people who were/are on BattleBots (the reboot) so it's the realest thing to me lmaoooo

The thing is it was never supposed to be a "parody" of anything, that was Comedy Central's doing in how they chose to present it. Discovery does the same thing, just to a much lesser degree. It existed for years as just an engineering competition before it made it to TV (and after before getting picked up again).

In terms of it being boring and the same designs, I think most fans/builders would agree, but no one seems willing to make wholesale changes for the sake of spicing things up a bit. It's probably too much of niche audience to try to promote just the design/building aspect of it, but there are some smaller regional competitions. One of them has a very high production value youtube channel and they put on great events like once a month, showcasing smaller scale (3/12/30lbs) robots instead of Battlebots 250lbs, so you get like students and hobby builders who are just in it for fun/competition.

    Battlebots defense attorney, signing off.

  9. tonight's episode also just shows how deep the AEW roster is - no Punk no Elite no Cole no Black and show still felt like a million bucks

the more I think about this, even though I think the Elite were probably in the right, "Kenny was only involved because he was trying to save a tiny dog!" is a hilarious (probably) spin job

Yeah this was a Lemonade episode

My only real complain is why Miro and Hobbs aren't in the tournament. I guess you don't wanna kill Hobbs momentum or saddle Miro with a loss. But they definitely seem deserving. Would've like to at least see a glimpse of what's next for them.

Speaking from the perspective of someone with similar work/education/extracurricular experiences as the people on the show, it's all about that optimization of proven designs, so much more rewarding than fucking around with more creative stuff.

If they wanted to, they could incentivize creative designs more imo

also at this point every engineering competition is just a pissing contest of who has the best 3D printers

That part I actually knew; and I wonder if something like Mythbusters had existed before it if they'd have actually gotten their way have a Kari Byron-type doing the commentating/interviewing instead of...Carmen Electra

The dog part of the story is my favorite. Kenny is apparently saving the dog, and hands it to their CHIEF LEGAL COUNSEL! who then flees the scene. In no sane company could you write that sentence.

Problem is we keep saying this, for nearly a year now, and it just seems to mean he never gets any action.

The rankings say Hobbs should be in the tourney (certainly over Sammy), but, I imagine they have plans for him

Yeah, had it ended up on TV a few years later it probably would have been on like G4 or something. Alison Haislip was actually on for a season or two when ABC brought it back.

Fun fact: Grant from Mythbusters had one of my favorite bots on the original series.

Yeah. I understand not wanting to give Hobbs a loss. But Mox vs Hobbs could still get Hobbs over in a big way even with a loss. And Miro Jericho could've been very good as well just have Jericho cheat to win. I guess maybe they just didn't have time to get all the matches in?

MJF’s entrance looked like my dog when she finds out she’s going for a car ride.

    - I can’t believe someone with a face as punchable as Sammy Guevara was ever a fan favorite.

    - Did Pac turn heel while he was only doing dark matches? His in-ring psychology is so different from the Lucha Bros until they start double teaming.

    - Swerve & Wheeler Yuta getting the most heat isn’t what I expected but it was a special show. Happy Garcia got that moment.

    - That was the first MJF promo I’ve seen and it did not disappoint. I had hope that they were going to turn Moxley heel for a millisecond.

    - Wish Ricky Starks & Powerhouse had something to do. Getting hard to fit everyone in with only three hours of airtime & the ROH stuff added in. The midcard is so crowded right now.

Was Dynamite good? I haven’t watched All Out, and I’ve no real interest in watching it since the nonsense that happened after it.
