So I was gonna make a post about how I had the advance of Futures with Jen on it and how I wish they hadn't left it off, and I always thought it had something to do with it just not fitting the album, but I just found this:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/JimmyEatWorld/comments/dlz3fr/jim_explains_what_happened_to_the_unreleased/

Even though it's true the band wasn't that stoked on it, apparently the real reason it was left off is because of the band Men Without Hats potentially suing them and JEW not wanting to waste their time finding out. Wild ass shit.

It's a shame though, it's nice to have a poppy upbeat track mixed in with all the emotional catharsis.

Closer is also a fantastic deep cut and my favorite song from that EP

  5. Jennifer is my sister's name and while it's a fine song, I've never thought it fit on that album and it always sounded weird to me to hear my sister's name sung over and over.

I actually completely understand this. I feel really odd whenever I listen to Coheed's Time Consumer because of the chorus of "Matthew, goodnight". "Goodnight to you too, Coheed."

The best deep cut is "Nothing Wrong." An absolute banger.

The Summer Set with "Chelsea" for me. Except it's one of their most popular songs

  11. you worried about a short set tonight with the rock hall website saying 8:00 - 10:00 for the whole shebang?

    I wasn't but NOW I AM???

I never really put any stock into when a concert venue/event page shows an end time.

  13. i would hope there wouldn’t be a need for a super strict curfew down there but i’m trying to temper expectations and enjoy whatever we get

    Best deep cut: Polaris

Most underrated song: the whole album Damage

B-side that most should have been an album track:
    Open Bar Reception

There are a PLETHORA of venues JEW could have played in Cleveland, I don't think there is any chance in hell they would have agreed to pick the Rock Hall if they really could only play a 45-60 min set. That would be kind of absurd.

Also...where the hell do you park for a Rock Hall show? I am going to be cutting it SUPER close as my son has soccer until 730.

  16. there’s a good amount of street parking all up and down that area with the stadium and science center. i’ve generally ended up there for outdoor rock hall shows, but i’m not sure if i’ve been to one this big

I'm aware of the street parking down that street, but I figured by the time I get there, I'd have no chance.

Do you still have the advance CD? Always loved Jen. It’s a good song, catchy and well-written, great bridge and solo too.

Listening to Damage for the first time in years, and something still feels off. The songs themselves are very good, but the production is just so flat and lifeless. It sounds like a bunch of b-sides.

This is my only bad Jimmy Eat World take, I promise.

  20. My bad Jimmy take is that nothing post Futures has ever come close to Clarity/Futures for me. They all have some great songs, but I haven’t gone back to their last few albums more than a handful of times, yet I still see them every time they are in town, and I know every song they play.

Mostly agree with this. Integrity Blues came close to having that same feeling for me, but I don't think anything they do will hit as hard as their earlier stuff. Maybe it's nostalgia.

For me, Chase This Light and Integrity Blues are right in that second tier with Bleed American, right after Clarity and Futures.

CTL might be in the top tier if you moved "Gotta Be Somebody's Blues" to the SOMST EP, and added "Open Bar Reception" (a top 5 JEW song) and "Be Sensible" to it.

My rankings change depending on my mood but today (best to worst): Futures, Bleed American, Clarity, Integrity Blues, Damage, Surviving, Invented, Chase This Light, Static Prevails (never listened to their 1994 self-released debut and from everything I've read, it's not worth revisiting).

    forbidden chalice.

my bad take is that, although Surviving came out in an important time in my life and was my AOTY, I don’t think it’s particularly that good or necessary in the scope of this band’s discography. I remember it as “the latest JEW album”
