After the Hobbit movies I just kind of expect nothing to live up to the original trilogy.

the hobbit movies existing is probably why amazon didnt get back to jackson for this series

i love the lotr films but honestly having one director or production group have an absolute monopoly on something like lotr is probably less good than the alternative

It’s just very dense when it comes to the amount of information within the book, similar to the Bible. Some of the lore is also almost symmetrical to the events in the Bible when it comes to the backstory of Morgoth and such.

it's also a lot of "x son of y son of z met a son of b son of c in land ____" type stuff lol. literally the history of middle-earth.

most of the coolest stuff in the Silmarillion Amazon couldn’t buy for this (Fall of Gondolin remains my holy grail). but yeah. there’s plenty of sweet lore to adapt as long as someone does it with a smidge of care.

Fire and Blood (which is the basis for Hot D) is pretty much this too, so much so that fans call it the 'GRRMarillion" .

Since this is coming out, I will now be using this opportunity to watch the LOTR movies for the first time ever, and I'm doing all the extended versions. I do want to include the Hobbit movies too even though I know they're not nearly as widely loved but I can't find the extended versions of those to stream or even rent anywhere, just to buy which I'm not doing

Watched Fellowship and loved it. I didn't realize the credits were 27 minutes long lol so it ended a little abruptly for me but I can already tell I'm going to really enjoy this. Highlight was definitely everything from the Fellowship being formed all the way through the whole cave sequence, that whole section really scratched the fantasy/adventure itch for me

Also I had no idea Cate Blanchett was in these

  21. Parts of the Silmarillion are awesome but it’s definitely not something you gotta sit down and read front to back imo

the extended edition dvds are worth tracking down. Hours upon hours of behind the scenes material.

Watched Two Towers earlier. I think I liked Fellowship ever so slightly more because I liked the whole group together but this one was fantastic too, the Battle of Helm's Deep is just as spectacular as I've heard over the years. Wasn't a big fan of the stuff with Pippin and Merry and the trees (but I've heard the extended versions, which I'm watching, make those scenes way longer) but everything else I really loved. Can't wait to watch ROTK tomorrow

I can't believe these movies were made over 20 years ago, the effects and production design are absolutely astounding
