Glad I fucked around and did like 6 years of college so I was old enough to fall off needing to include my parents on the FAFSA. Never thought that would work out in my favor. I always carried that around as a burden and mad at myself that I added to my loan amounts because of it.

Correct, that does not mean that you did or did not get Pell Grants though.

I hope this is the kind of loan my brother got cause it would help him out so much. His dad (my step father) died in 2020 and our mother totally fucked the kid over. Like don't give any of the life insurance to your youngest child WHO'S FATHER JUST FUCKING DIED to help him pay off his loans.....just go buy yourself a fucking timeshare you selfish bitch.

I'm a very VERY upset Older sister when it comes to this subject.

Yeah me and my brother both received Pell grants and we weren't even that poor lol. So this should help a lot more people I'd imagine

Why the Pell Grant difference? Doesn't make any sense at all to me

Extending the pause is good, though phrasing it as "one final time" sucks

"You can cap repayment at 5% of your monthly income" doesn't really solve the problem, right? Like the whole reason people get burried so far in student loan debt is because they keep making these minimum payments due to it being all they can afford. And then the interest piles up and they are stuck in debt forever. We really need some kind of "If you've been paying off your loans for a certain number of years, they get completely forgiven" clause to really make that work.

Only had my moms income by the time I was in college and she barely made middle class income herself, so I’m sure I had pell grants at some point

Want to see how they define "went to college on Pell Grants". That is slightly worrying for me, as someone that got them in their last two years of college.

Yeah my parents combined made less than 25k so I’m sure I got one of those grants but it looks like they found a way to means test me out of getting anything the fucking bastards

I didn't go to College so I feel super out of place for this one.

That's generally how the income-driven repayment plans work. After a certain amount of time, 20-30 years though, the remaining balance is forgiven. Makes for a helluva tax consequence though.

Can he change that tax consequence? I wonder if that can be done by the President or does it need to be done by Congress.

Yeah I think it’s 30 years which it’s like oh ok now I’m 55 years old and could never get a loan for a house thanks so much
Also you have to make consecutive on time payments for 30 freaking years!

  22. Elder Lightning

Yeah, I agree there. Should've at least came along with a statement that said "but, at least as long as I am president, the interest rate will stay at zero."

It took me till I was almost 40 to figure out what I want to be when I grow up but I think its a little too late in the game for me to be trying to get into Music Engineering.

I'm just out here trying to get John Mayer to know I exist and wife me up.

You would figure he announces some type of database that you just enter your info and it lets you know where you stand on forgiveness.

    that isn’t FAFSA
