Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

if this was pinkerton I'd get it but Blue album by a (black) mile

  3. Come on lol

  4. Black Mile is their best record, but I've soured a little on MO while Weezer has shockingly grown on my with age. Opinions about new Weezer aside, The Blue Album is one of VERY few albums I would call perfect, and "Only in Dreams" in the best song in this bracket.

Considering the albums we have in this bracket, this statement is absolutely wild to me, but I like the boldness!

  7. If it's not my favorite song of all time, it's neck and neck with "Dramamine"

Weirdly one of the toughest matchups so far imo. Black Mile feels like clearly the better ~album~ but Blue is a lean mean hit machine. Gonna have to think about this one for a while. Also very hard separate the memory of seeing MO on the Black Mile tour — they really are one of the best live bands doing it

it … is? just say you don’t like the band lol. the one thing that is objectively true about him is he’s an insanely good guitarist. source: someone who plays guitar lol

it doesn’t super come through in weezer’s own music but it does in their covers

  10. Listen to "Death and Destruction." Or Maladroit in general

It also doesn't help that I have absolutely no idea how we're defining "scene" in this situation. Kind of like the JEW "scene" but less obviously defined in the 90s.

good song, underrated album in terms of it being just as good as Blue/Pinkerton. Not something I would call by far the best of what "the scene" has to offer.

They still owe me for pain and suffering from their Toto covers

Their cover of "Rosanna" is so embarrassing I'm not sure how the drummer doesn't wear a Lone Ranger mask on stage now.

Being a Weezer fan means understanding that ~30 percent of what they do will make you wonder why you are a Weezer fan.

(It might be higher than 30 percent, honestly.)

@phaynes12 what songs would you recommend checking out that he shines on guitar wise? I’ll give ‘em a listen when I kick this migraine

also, as i said, there’s a lot of live stuff of them covering radiohead, queen and metallica quite convincingly. like, he was a shredder metal guy before weezer haha. he’s cringe as fuck but not being able to admit he’s a good lead guitarist is just a bad take/showing your ass a bit (not calling out @Meerkat here/just talking generally)

although idk what argument i’m trying to make necessarily haha. it’s not a genre where “lead guitar” is really something with that high of a bar. it isn’t the focus.

he's good. idk what scene we're talking about but i definiely wouldn't call him the best at all.

i genuinely cannot think of a single better one. it’s fine. he’s an embarrassing lyricist and singer as of late but if you added him as solely a guitarist to basically any band this site talks about frequently, they’d instantly improve

I’d never heard anything where he stood out which was why I asked. I’ll report back soon!

    Trusted

Rivers has multiple solos like every rock fan from the 90’s can sing along to and on the Tired Of Sex solo that last note “fretted” on the pickup is amazing
