Their last few have definitely been rough for me, beyond a song here or there. I like Suburbia and The Greatest Generation though. They’re not, like, frequent listens for me, but I think the songcraft is a cut above TAYF. And Soupy, while far from my favorite singer, is definitely a less grating vocalist than early Adam Lazzara.

If you think his voice is bad on TAYF, You should hear adams voice now, holy shit it’s awful. It was comical a few weeks ago opening for 3EB.

I haven’t checked in probably since Tidal Wave. I can’t imagine the live show is a better scenario.

I gave this Wonder Years album a listen when an emo kid student told me to check it out after we exchanged musical tastes in a convo. It was okay. Tbh I don’t find TAYF Adam’s voice nearly as grating as the Wonder Years guys voice lol.

I liked The bastards/vultures/wolves, but couldn’t get into much else from what I remember. Maybe I should give it another try.

TAYF takes all the raw feelings of young love and breakups and friendships and goddamn does it nail it. John’s screaming voice on that album is so good. Album got me through so bad times haha

Adam has a great voice on record. Unique and distinctive. His pitch has never been good live. Neither of these things are likely to change.

Even as a massive tbs fan, TAYF is definitely not the best record of 2002 when Songs For The Deaf and Turn On The Bright Lights both exist.

Despite that, TAYF still sounds good imo, the remaster even better. Idk what record people are hearing that makes them think its unlistenable unless you just don't enjoy Adam's vocals or something else, then I get it, not for everyone.

Modern TBS on the other hand is a whole other story. Extremely hit or miss track to track. I probably enjoy half of their most recent record.

TGG is the last decent TYW record but definitely the beginning of the end for my love for them. The histrionic vocals on a lot of their songs bug me these days. Just way too much most of the time.

    TAYF>TGG

Very long list of 2002 records that should have beaten it out.

Very short list of singers whose voices I find less palatable than Adam’s, hence the “unlistenable” descriptor.

I have very few “explain the appeal to me” bands. Usually I can see what the draw is even if it’s not for me. But Interpol is one I have NEVER understood.

he’s not as bad as adam, for sure, but his voice is often the first complain i hear about this band

Interpol is one of the bands that makes basically the same song over and over but sometimes that song is really really good.

i’d say they basically mix the aesthetic of that band with elements of the pixies and guitar work inspired by u2. they aren’t good anymore but the first two are all timers.

the Interpol record from this year knocked my the fuck out, and by that I mean it was so boring it put me in a coma

Yeah there's no doubt TBS are a shadow of their former self but their early records were huge.

  20. Really not big on either band (those I was big on both at one time or another), I just don't understand the TWY-worship on this site (even as someone who enjoyed this particular album) and I tend to connect TAYF with so many other records from the time I loved, songs I covered in high school, etc. Going TAYF.

First two tbs records are fun and good. Obv should not have won a year but I’ll defend TAYF any day

  22. There was like maybe a month in 2013 where I thought the wonder years had finally converted me with TGG. Wasn’t long before I couldn’t make it through most of the songs, but that was by far the closest I’ve ever come to liking them

TAYF is also not very good but it’s got nostalgia and a classic mall emo single going for it

Very very very shocked at all the comments that TAYF is not good. Thought the album was universally worshipped...especially on a site like this.
