Sorry for all the posts, gang. I just found this thread and spouting off half-thought out opinions about music is my favorite thing.

I'd listen to Bob Marley for a year straight before listening to Frank Sinatra for a full day.

 

Lol fair enough. Leonard Cohen is great, and really launched my favorite style of music--sad white poor-singing men with deep voices trying not to fall apart in public.

 

The best albums that have come out in this decade are almost all hip-hop or R&B. Probably true of last decade too, but I wasn't really listening to those genres much back then.

 

I'd be fine with it if Brian Fallon quit making Gaslight Anthem records to write with Katy Perry.

 

The original version of Hallelujah is better than the Jeff Buckley version. It sounds like it could be in Twin Peaks and I think that's great.

 

I find them to be extremely emotive, not just a technical listen by any stretch

I don't hate JV, i just don't love the music he writes. He's featured heavily on Hadestown by Anais Mitchell, which is a favorite album of mine. And MBDTF obv., which soundtracked my freshman year in college. And i think that's him singing in Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks, so he's been there for some important musical moments in my life lol

 

Fair. If it wasn't for JV I may have never gotten into The National. And yeah, Anais Mitchell is great.

Young Man In America is criminally underrated. I firmly believe she's one of the best living songwriters and she doesn't get the credit she deserves for it.

 

I think I remember saying in this thread that I'd rather listen to almost anything on the planet before Blink 182.

The Dropkick Murphys are not one of those things.

Yeah that's absolutely true. The second half of YMIA, I remember being stunned by. Cool to see her in the backing band for BI on Fallon the other night, too.

I like radiohead and not really for any technical reasons cause I know nothing about that

Yeah, I always disagree with people who don't think there's emotional stuff in Radiohead songs. Their music is really great.
