Idk, they don’t strike me as the type of band that would keep their patreon running to take money from fans if they know they’re broken up

tbf theres been at least 2 separate extended times before where they were basically not a band at all, even though they didnt announce a hiatus.

maybe this is another. the lack of info follows the same pattern but yeah the extra context of the moment seems odd. im picking up some of the same vibes as yall.

Yeah, 2013 was definitely one of those years before they did that show at The Shrine in LA and then buckled down for Descensus

I feel like I do know when the other time was that the band may have been on “hiatus,” but I can’t remember

@Dinkleberg i think before each of their last 3 full lengths. they went through alot of shit too. esp after BSN and then Im pretty sure that they said Descensus was originally gonna be their last album when they were recording it.

the ocean and the sun is one of the best albums of that decade. i think you should try it again.

maybe one day, listening to those albums takes me back to a very specific weird period of my life that I’d rather not be reminded of currently.

Yeah I definitely remember about Descensus that if things didn’t work out in the studio (since they only booked, like, two weeks to write and record it) that they were gonna call it quits. I forget what interview or profile or whatever it was in though.

    obliterate all prior things

yeah each album cycle for the last decade has felt like it could easily be circa's last. so much turmoil, but in interviews and the touring of those albums they always seem to be reinvigorated. I think we are really lucky to have anything past BSN frankly so I just try to keep it all in perspective.

I've been very grateful for everything this band, and Anthony in particular, has done ever since Anthony came out about his struggles with addiction and how this band nearly crumbled during the VW era.

I never cared for TSOAF when I was young (I think I listened to Lover back then), so I recently revisited them and checked out their debut and I still just don't get it lol it's exactly what I remembered and was kind of a chore to get through. Maybe The Ocean and the Sun is the one

The Ocean and the Sun is the most cohesive of those records, probably their best but none of them are really great. Saying this even as someone who enjoys weird ambient as well as prog. They do have a number of cool songs and moments throughout their discog though. "On the Occasion of Wet Snow" in particular is pretty fantastic.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

The Heretic is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard

Lover The Lord is unreal, nothing else like it. Messy, diverse and strangely beautiful

tiger and the duke blows ocean and the sun out of the water imo. but i think the best song TSOAF ever did was this heat.

TSOAF has some good stuff, but I'll certainly take a new LP from Saosin over one that's prob hit-or-miss, noisescapes for 1/3 of its runtime, and Anthony sings a total of 8 minutes on.
