Nothing. What do you have against nuanced songwriting, creative arrangements, and god-like harmonies?

 

i agree with the songwriting and the harmonies and have nothing against that. i disagree completely regarding the arrangements and it’s the single thing that’s held me back from enjoying the band for so long.

 

Honest, no snark response: see if you can find the Classic Albums episode for it. They solo out some tracks and play with the mixes and you can really catch some of the inventive shit Lindsey was doing in the pop medium. Tusk didn’t come ENTIRELY out of the blue. Like “Second Hand News” has some legit ear candy

 

Never gonna vote against Rumours. Probably the album that really made me fall in love with music if I think back hard enough. It always strikes me how cohesive the album is given how many emotions are crossing in and out of each other. "Don't Stop" into "Go Your Own Way" into "Songbird" shouldn't really flow as well as it does. I'll also go to bat for "Songbird" being one of the greatest love songs ever written.

Tim's tone on this album is on point. Probably the best bass tone in all of rock.

 

Personally the harmonies are one my favorite things about rage against the machine

I've been trying to figure it out as a guitarist my whole life. He just manages to find such incredible beauty and tension in repetition. Are you familiar with The Dance at all? The version of "I'm So Afraid" from that is probably his magnum opus as a guitarist and he has multiple lines he locks in on and repeats that are in my head all the time.

 

It's not my favorite but if I had to pick a GOAT record in 5 seconds or you'll shoot me and letting you shoot me wasn't an option I'd pick Rumours.
