  1. I feel like there’s a 99% chance Trump was tipped off about this “raid” - could he really be so dumb to have left incriminating shit in a safe? lol

    yeah that's me, very pro-cop.

This thread is (edit: can be) so horrendously bad at dealing with simple misinfo.
Your bad wasn't a lack of benefit of the doubt at all, kinda the opposite for the other party.

    lmao you can't be serious.
I stand by what I said.

"Swarmed by cops and arrested just 24 hours after making a complaint" isn't a litmus test for interpretation, it's a very blatant stripping of the context of the moment. Which, again, is a well-seasoned activist crossing the barrier between the public and an inner chamber of city hall during an organized protest action.

Your take on it shows why people who have morality on their side still lie for no good reason.

not sure how anything in this article could make you feel less outraged

According to a search warrant affidavit, the Norfolk, Nebraska, police department launched an investigation in April after receiving information that Burgess’s daughter had miscarried and buried the fetus.

A detective in the department then obtained the daughter’s health records, determining that she was nearly six months pregnant at the time of the miscarriage and expected to deliver in early July.

It is unclear how the detective obtained the teen’s medical records or exactly how the tip was sent to police.

  13. Honestly I do get why it's funny to see Trump country get all mad about this, but I don't understand why the progressive left shouldn't be worried as hell about it.

Were we not all in agreement earlier when the whole thing came up about $600+ transactions being tracked and needing to provide tax forms to platforms like StubHub and TaskRabbit? Does the beefing-up of the IRS come with a corollary overhaul of its operating philosophy? If not, it seems pretty obvious that regular people are definitely going to be fucked.

I find humor in the conservatives' hypocrisy but not in the alarm being raised.

I mean, charging someone for getting an abortion vs. charging someone for burying the aborted baby, why would the latter make you more outraged?

I mean that I felt more outraged when I thought it was someone doing an abortion themselves because of the Roe vs. Wade thing, not someone who did it before Roe was overturned and did it at a point where they wouldn't have been able to get an abortion anyway.

    Plus this quote:

“[The daughter] talks about how she can’t wait to get the ‘thing’ out of her body and reaffirms with [Jessica Burgess] that they will burn the evidence afterwards,” the detective wrote in court records, according to Siouxland News, a local news affiliate.

I dunno, nothing about this sits well with me, is a more accurate way to put it.

We have less IRS agents then we did in the 1950's, now I can understand being concerned on what they investigate, but that department has been so purposefully understaffed and underfunded by Republicans that those funds are sorely needed. My guess and hope as well is that hiring those agents also speeds up the process for people of lower incomes who are being audited.

  17. Can't tell if I'm being too cynical or you're being too optimistic. I hope you're right!

The funny thing about this is I bet it’s the only part of the bill Tulsi will ever talk about. Nothing about the climate initiatives or the healthcare aspects that she would have cared about when running for President

i guess i don't see the difference? what exactly are you supposed to do with an aborted fetus other than bury it?

that quote makes the situation even more bleak to me. she very clearly did not want to keep it and for whatever reason felt as though she had no other choice

I also don’t trust the cop’s framing of the situation

  21. I mean for one, you're supposed to not abort it with pills of sketchy origin that could have killed the pregnant person.
And you're not supposed to bury biowaste wherever you feel like it.
Strip away all the questionable laws and you still have some shit behavior here.

  22. Well yeah, are Democrats running around talking about how more than half of IRS audits are on people making under $50k and this will increase the number of those audits?

"Pol focuses on their talking points" is flimsy criticism when it's just the way all of them behave.

remember also its not just hiring new agents. Its hiring new workers across the board. It should absolutely help speed up the process of getting returns or dealing with other tax issues, while still also allocating more resources to go after wealthy tax evaders (which often get ignored because there simply isn't the staff to effectively go after them)

Without knowing anything about the person's state of mind at the time or the situation they were in, I can only react based on what I see in front of me, and calling an unborn child a "thing", even if you're aborting it, doesn't sit well with me. It rubs me very wrongly.

Not saying that's the only thing, but it's the only part of your post I know how to respond to.
