Yeah that was bit poorly phrased and not really what I actually think. Really, i just think both groups sound horrifically uninspired, but again, that’s an opinion and you’re allowed to disagree with me.

green day lost me in the last 10ish years or so. dont care much about anything they do now and surely not paying 100+ to go to a show but cant get mad at a 1 in a million band for working their way up, striking a fortune making music and capitalizing on it.

honestly mark is maybe the best frontman of all time

green day’s arc from dookie to american idiot is objectively artistically incredible (21st century breakdown is my favorite but i’m not including it bc i don’t want to start a fight)

i think i get disappointed when artists i love totally lose direction. i know that arcs and progressions are actually illusions but if you listen to the trilogy you can just hear a band not quite knowing what to do with themselves lol

Any band worth a damn has to try things, and sometimes that means they try things that don’t quite come off. I’d argue that Revolution Radio was them finding it again after the messy experiment of the trilogy.

At that point, it’s just blatantly performative. Desperation to show that you’re “one of the good ones.” Which SO often feels like they doth protest too much.

I can't decide if their former AIDS denialism is something almost no one remembers/knows about or if it's been repeated enough now and it just feels like no one knows.
