I care 'cause I was hoping for more from these guys.

I don't think we are at the point where melodies are going to be reused, there are theoretically endless possibilities. Just most bands aren't going to expand their harmonic and melodic content if they don't have to.

I'm not saying it's a bad song at all, it all sounds good, but there is no way they hadn't heard Forest Whitaker and that Andy just didn't realize it was similar imo. Maybe he wrote it, maybe he didn't, doesn't really change anything in the end. It's okay to reuse or recycle melodies but if you do that you have to do something new to it (The 1975 does this really well) and they didn't really do anything new with it in this song since it's about practically the same thing and used within the same context.

I'm sure that's just the way I feel. It's really just a small gripe I have with the song. I think the mixing of the loud section is way worse than this one melodic phrase lol. I just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

Having seen Reservoir Dogs is actually what I think makes the video bad.

  3. From what I've seen, his gripe with this song mainly has to do with the lyrical content. I may have missed him posting other thoughts elsewhere though. But yeah, the lyrics don't bother me at all and even if they did I like the song enough anyway.

  4. snagged that color-in-color, song sounds really great

I don't really hear the similarities to Forest Whitaker.

But damn I forgot how much I like that Bad Books album.

I like Get My Cut more than I did on the first listen. I like Get My Cut more than Home. I like Forest Whitaker better than Get My Cut (but it's just day 1!!! Not listening again until the full thing is out).

I'm not sure what you were asking so I answered everything!

God I can't wait for you guys to hear "Whatever." Probably my favorite song on the record. Neither of these singles do the album justice.

I have a feeling from Jason's first listen that the two songs released are the worst

I'm in agreement with him. I'm a big fan of Home's narrative: pretty sure that's why they chose it as a single, but there are so many better songs on this record that would have been better than "Get my Cut"

I love these two singles, too. Can't imagine how great the rest of the album is if these two don't do it justice.
    Consider me excited.

  13. I still think "Home" is great, but yeah, "Get My Cut" is one of my least favorites. Still think this album is the best AGO release.

This is good to know! Do you also feel that the songs sit better as album tracks than alone as singles?

After listening to Get My Cut only once yesterday I can still remember how some of it goes, which for me is a really good sign. I'm sure I'll be enamored with this album.

  16. I've only ever heard "Get My Cut" in context, but I think it sits fine within the album (lyrics are the only thing that bug me) and yeah, "Home" is a killer second track following "Room To Talk."

If these are really the two worst songs on the record, then I'm so excited. I've fallen in love with all of "Home" and the verses of "Get My Cut.'

I feel like both of these songs, more so than their previous work, sound like they could be straight up Manchester Orchestra songs. Like, switch out his vocals for Andy and you've got two Manchester Orchestra songs no questions asked. Haha

Not necessarily complaining, I love MO and I really like both of these songs.

But with The Season and Movement I feel like there was more of a "in the vein" of MO vibe, whereas these are just "MO" haha.

Obviously Andy and Robert co-writing and producing have a lot to do with it.

I'm sure I will love this album and rank it very highly. Just an observation.
