The cucurella fee is a nice ROI on a 1-year investment.

It looks like we've beaten West Ham to Amadou Onana's signature. I don't know an awful lot about him but I know he's an absolute unit of a DM. If we sign Gueye to go alongside him, too, I'd be a lot more positive about our defensive prospects for the season ahead. As for our attack, we need another CF. For some reason I think it's going to be Broja on loan once the Chelsea game is out of the way.

Seen you've been linked heavily to Coady from Wolves too, which hints at playing a back 3. That what you think too? 3-4-3 with 2 DMs and attacking wingbacks. I'd be worried if they were looking at Coady for a back 4 like.

That’s a lot for leftback Claudio Sanchez

Yeah, I've just seen the Coady link. I hope to God that he's coming in to play in a 3-4-3. Do you know if he's Left-footed or not?

    hmmm

    Coady's very much right footed

Yeah as JM95 said, think he's right footed and plays in the centre of the back 3. So in my mind, the defense would possibly look -

    Coleman/ Patterson - Tarkowski - Coady - Mina/Keane - LWB

    Could be Patterson - Tarkowski - Coady - Mina/Godfrey - Mykolenko.

Lots of potential there but, naturally, it'll take time to gel. Hopefully Keane and Holgate are booted into oblivion lol.

Once you can make sense of this graph it's quite compelling. Allegedly, Burnley being relegated spells the end of long ball football in the Premier League.

Do they explain what mixed build-up entails or what constitutes a long ball? It seems some teams start with buildup play from the back and then look for opportunities to lob the ball forward which is different than what I imagine a long ball to be (Keeper/Defender booting the ball down field).

Not sure on that. I've not seen the full article it's taken from, you see. I found the image on Twitter and tried to make best sense out of it :crylaugh:

"There are various ways to approach this from a data perspective, but to keep things easy to understand, the following categorisation is based around two very simple metrics.

The first involves goalkeeper distribution. If the goalkeeper played the ball, on average, more than 40 metres (43 yards) downfield, that is considered the sign of a long-ball side.

The second is essentially the same thing but for centre-backs. The cut-off point here is seven metres downfield on average.

If they tick both boxes — the goalkeeper’s distribution was 40m or more on average and their centre-backs’ distribution was 7m or more on average — they are considered a long-ball side (LB in our tables).

If they tick neither box — the goalkeeper’s distribution was less than 40m on average and their centre-backs advanced the ball less than 7m on average — they are considered a ‘play out from the back’ side (PO in our tables).

If they tick one of the boxes, they are considered a mixed build-up side (MB in our tables)."

lol that's fair. It is an interesting observation, nonetheless. I wonder what factors have prompted the change. As a fan, I don't mind it. I get bored fairly quickly if the ball seems to be airborne for too great a percentage of playtime.

I know this is a post laugjing at the weird fan but I saw that same infographic on R/soccer cause there’s a weird guy who only posts anti-Arsenal stuff all day.

Was nice to see opposition fans point out that we spent that money because we spent a whole decade underfunding our squad, and we essentially needed an entirely new first team.

Also these graphics always suck because if you widen it to five years United climb stupidly higher than everyone else, and if it’s 10 then City are miles above everyone else. 15 and it’s Chelsea. It’s an arbitrary number designed to make a biased point and they always are.

Teams expenditure is all relative and can’t really be viewed in a vacuum. We’ve spent a lot, but we needed to. Opposition fans laughed when we didn’t fund our team, and now they moan when we do it to play catch up.

TLDR: Football fans online/on socials suck

  19. I think Spurs fans just get a kick out of the Arteta worship stuff. It’s funny. Some of the Arsenal fans speak of him like he’s some football wizard sent from the heavens lol
