get the feeling this is going to be a generator DIY show in the middle of a Chicago park.

Apparently Falling in Reverse is going to be playing Hollywood Bowl later this fall/early winter whichis 17000 capacityI was really hoping a piece of shit like Radke would just go away. I truly thought that as his fans grew up they'd start realizing what kind of person he is. Or, maybe they did but now the radio rock crowd is his followers and don't know about his past. That's possible.

As a headlining act? He didn't sell out the palladium last time they were early this year

Ah interesting. That contradicts the "intimate" tour mentioned in the Rolling Stone UK interview but maybe it was scrapped for a larger scale tour.

Apparently the "intimate" comment was taken out of context. Matty meant to say that they wanted a more stripped-back, indie performance and production style than they typically go for, not that the venues themselves would be physically smaller. I think his exact words were that he wanted the next tour to "feel like they're in a small theatre [as opposed to] an IMAX movie".

That makes more sense. Wild to think that they had Phoebe Bridgers scheduled to OPEN for them on their last arena run before COVID cancelled it.

Yeah now Phoebe could probably outsell them/is more popular. At least it feels that way.

phoebe definitely has gotten bigger while they've been away but by no metric (sales/streaming/social stuff) is she bigger than the 1975, one of the biggest bands on the planet. and i like her music way more than theirs. it just ... isn't the case. she would definitely still open for them, or at the very least co-headline but play before them every night.

Idk, Phoebe's drawing power seems to be growing rapidly. She was playing ~4000 Cap venues last year, but now she's selling out 7000+ cap venues multiple times in the same city. Idk if she could sell out hockey/basketball arenas quite yet, but she's well on the way.

Last time The 1975 toured the US they played mostly 10k-15k cap ampitheatres & ballrooms. Idk how much bigger they've gotten in the past 3 years, but Phoebe clearly has more forward momentum right now, so they'll probably both be doing 20k arenas soon.

I don’t know if I would call The 1975 one of the biggest bands on the planet yet either tbh (they’re not top 3 headliners at major music festivals, for example) but I do agree they’d probably co-headline at the least. There’s word that they are playing the Anthem in DC this tour and Phoebe just headlined two nights there, so in some markets already they are hitting the same capacity venues.

well, yeah, venues only get so big lol. eventually they're going to be playing the same places because they aren't going to be playing, like, soldier field haha. i don't know if venue size is necessarily as good of a metric as the ones i mentioned.

The 1975 are bigger but depending on how Phoebe’s next album cycle goes she could pretty easily close the gap.

For as big Phoebe is, I was surprised at how tiny her Coachella crowd felt this year

Huge Phoebe fan but skipped her Coachella set, and actually all her festival sets I’ve been at. She’s not a great fit for a large crowd of casual fans and talkers, the vibe just isn’t right. Much prefer a headline solo show from her.
