Been having a rough time this week and these lyrics are really hitting for me rn fr

I like a goofy wimp, I watch your stupid clip
    I'm like "More food, please"
When I'm flobby-boppin in the goopy goblin
    With the may-back jeans
I'm just a dopey dump, I'll never open up

    we've all been there :verysad:

I have to actively ignore some of tilians lyrics, just some really awful stuff like swallowed by eternity ugh and one man’s cringe, even tho I like both the songs the lyrics are so so bad and I know his lyrics have never been great but god damn they’re actively distracting me

I... wish I hadn't read the lyrics, because it is painfully obvious now that is what it's about.

These stood out to me. Darkly ironic for a man like him to be trying to talk about how a woman is treating men.

    Said she liked your flavor
Then she gone and fucked somebody else
    That chick is danger
    She bound to wreck somebody
    Ask me for a favor
I'll tell you, "Find somebody else"
    An agitator
    She bound to wreck somebody

THAT'S the one that makes me cringe each time I hear it. Saw someone describe some of his lyrics this time around as "dead on arrival" and I really think that fits.

the one in swallowed by eternity (I think) about having to put up with things he finds deplorable or whatever, like yeah that’s def about the liberal leanings of music fans and his conservative ass having to put up with it to make money lol he def used the word deplorable on purpose there

When my favorite outlet becomes a burden
Don't know for certain how long it'll last for
    Poetic outlet becomes a serpent
When it converges with all that I deplore

    gross!

Tilian had a bunch of shit on previous records like Born To Fail that we prob subconsciously convinced ourselves was satire or tongue-in-cheek just to endure hearing it. Nah - I think he's just a shallow frat boy narcissist. It's not like anyone listens to DGD for the lyrics, but Christ I won't miss his.

I mean way back on "Lost" he dedicated the whole bridge to defending homophobic slurs

something like lost could have more charitable readings (for instance, i think it does happen where people are ostracized and torn down for shit they said ages ago in ways that feel really dumb and useless, which is how i normally interpreted that particular song) but theres really not much ambiguity anymore on what he really believes

Also the chorus to Robot Pt 4 (his debut track with dgd) is pretty suspect

like some of his lyrics were fantastic, we own the night had some extremely poignant stuff i could relate to my own struggles with substance abuse, so its not like everything he's ever written is bad, and for the most part a lot of it was just neither here nor there, like midnight crusade pretty standard stuff i can get behind, but yeah its just a ton of really hard to swallow shit up and down jackpot juicer

"Girl don't be so difficult, come here let's get physical"?

I wrote it off as satire at the time but I know it rubbed some people the wrong way

ah yeah in hindsight knowing how he treats consent thats pretty bad but normally i wouldnt think much of it at all

This. So many of his lyrics seemed like satire, but now it that the mask is off, it's so clear he's just writing what he knows best. I don't even think he realizes he's being political, I think he's just mouthing off what he feels and decides whether or not believes it when and if he's called on it. He's basically been Shrodinger's Asshole-ing his entire career.

"Current Events" is definitely about how much he hates people who talk about "politics". As Chase just mentioned, "Lost" defends Fronz's use of slurs. "Head Hunter" is about how he's an Alpha Male who's too cool to for the snowflakes and people who go to therapy. "Story Of My Bros" is about how his exes talk shit about him to hurt his public image. "Bloodsucker" is about how millennials are offended by everything.

We've had warnings for years, but Jon's lyrics were always such great subterfuge that you could just ignore it if you wanted to, I know I certainly did. But nah, there's clearly no point defending him anymore: this is who he wants to be, and he's gonna get hugboxed by anti-cancel culture abuse apologists and reactionary scumbags for the rest of his career, and hopefully the rest of the band doesn't follow suit.

based on the stories ive heard about jon i wouldnt hold him up as some good example to follow lol. dude is apparently extremely fucking weird and misogynistic. i know youre just talking his lyrics but theres a huge divide between public perception of the guy based on his goofy nonsense lyrics and the way he actually is and its weird af.

tbh I've always suspected many of his most cringe lyrics were sincere, and then some of the details from the recent allegations (particularly what's he's alleged to have said during one of the encounters) just fit all that to a tee.

I've been a huge fan of his vocal talents for a long time, but he strikes me as a scuzzy, shallow dolt with little else to offer. He and Jonny are different in the details, but both their talents are ultimately a tragic waste.

Oh no, I wasn't saying Jon is a good person, I know nothing about him. I just meant that his presence in the band was so distractingly silly that it made it harder to hold any of the band's lyrics to any standard of sincerity, which provided good cover for Tilian's BS.

he used to post a bunch of right-libertarian shit on twitter but started keeping it to himself as their fanbase became bigger and bigger which naturally means a bunch of young LGBQT+ teens came on board, which is great! but also is what im talking about that deplorable line of him having to stomach liberal viewpoints in order to keep his art going
