maybe it’s my Nintendo background, but I much prefer limgrave and liurnia. Give me the greens and blues and trees over something that looks like a gross std rash anyday

So, not to break the illusion or anything, but something that's crossed my mind lately is... where are all the normal people?

Like, Limgrave, Kenneth Haight or whatever, wants to be the actual lord of Limgrave. But what would he be the lord of? All I've seen in Limgrave are things that want to eat me, kill me, or kill me and eat me.

Where are the non-soldier, non-merchant human beings in the Lands Between? Are they all dead?

Player's Log: I didn't do much tonight. I decided to roam the landscape, like I said I would, and I found Patches again. Also found a Grafted Scion in the middle of some ruins, and fuck those things.

Then I decided the best move was just to ride out to where the map pieces were and at least be able to see the landmasses I'm working with.

Fuck, Liurnia is huge. The kind of huge that's like YUUUGE. I mean, I knew it was already, but riding through it all with Torrent really drove it home how vast this lake is.

Maybe I really should break this area up into chunks instead of trying to navigate the whole landmass. I dunno, I'm going to need to plan. Strategize.

JFC I actually managed to beat Godskin Duo my first try :embarrassed: unreal, being able to summon Bernhal plus my mimic tear made it almost unfair to the bosses!

I genuinely don't know what I even did to get his summon sign there though!

That is one element of this game that really needs to be improved (impo); the fact that there is literally no way to keep check of how NPC quest lines are progressing without checking online doesn't make sense to me.

Sekiro I found it fine because for the most part you do run into the NPCs easier. With ER the world is so big that it is much easier to miss the characters you need to find - even in a relatively small place like Volcano Manor I would not have known where Rya's final location was without looking it up as it is quite hidden away!

That's fair for sure haha, I get that. I didn't have too much of a problem in Elden Ring but I also only did a couple of sidequests so I don't feel fully qualified to have an opinion on how it goes in ER.

Player's Log: I've been scouring the map again. I've mainly been trying to get to all the Sites of Grace, so that when I really start exploring, I can navigate the lake quickly.

That said, I have been doing what I can here and there where it doesn't look too daunting. I've killed another Tibia Mariner, I met the lovely folk of Jartown, I had a chat with White Mask Varre, and I've collected all manner of assorted goods and materials.

I stopped in the church with the priest turtle, because it seemed like a good stopping point. I still have so much more map to explore. I mostly stuck to the lake area south of the Academy, and then started moving along the east side of the lake.

Probably tomorrow I'll start moving along the west side and trying to do what I can over there. It's a lot to navigate!

Oh, and also, met a random engine of fiery death, and a random giant ball of heads. I killed them both. They were unsettling. I do have to give the game props for that, they knew how to design some really creepy characters.

So I had a thought this morning, that the overall plotline of this game is that the ring broke and now the Shardbearers are corrupted, right?

Reminds me heavily of what happened to the Pillars of Nosgoth in Legacy Of Kain. Man, I miss that game series something fierce.

Forgot to say this yesterday but Dragonlord Placidusax absolutely whips, best designed boss I have come across in this game so far without exception; the dragon itself is incredible, the arena is incredible, it's moveset is great besides that stupid laserbeam fire thing. However, this one more than any other large enemy made me realise how wasted all that stuff is when all you need to do to beat it is stand behind it or to the side and just chip away.

I guess the same with fire giant too, being in any sort of position where you can appreciate the visual aspect of fighting such an enemy puts you at a huge disadvantage, so you just spend the whole thing stood by their foot not being able to see 99% of what they are doing

I do not know if this applies to US too, but if anyone is interested Bloodborne is currently on sale in EU PS Store for £7.99 which is insanely cheap

Also, for Elden Ring I wish they had a journal type thing ala Skyrim...would make all the NPC quests much easier to follow or remember

Player's Log: So, to show how far I've come and to prove a point, I unlocked the portal in the Four Belfries that sends you back to the Church of Anticipation, and I killed the Grafted Scion there that killed me in the beginning of the game. Quite easily too.

And to then prove I've learned absolutely nothing, I followed the butterflies to my death like a chump, the very first trap in the game.

Anyway, I think I've triggered enough Sites of Grace to really play around in Liurnia now. I haven't gone too far northward because I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, so I'm leaving Northern Liurnia behind for now and focusing on what I have left in the creamy middle.

I have still done some things here and there though. I defeated the Omenkiller in the Village of the Albinaurics, and Albus' death was very sad. I'm starting to feel like the reason I don't see any normal joes around is because they're all fuckin' dead.

I also had a very strange event happen, where I warped back to the Roundtable Hold and immediately was confronted with an aggressor, who I killed with no problem, but it was still startling. Once I beat him, the game warped me to the actual Hold like nothing had happened. Very odd.

I'm following a thread on Reddit where someone attempted to put all the NPC interactions in chronological order, so tomorrow I'm going to use that and see what I need to be doing where so I don't fuck anything up.

Once I'm up to speed there, I'll go around the areas I've been and wrap up any unfinished business, and start taking on some of the dungeons I've bypassed.

OK my Mimic Tear +10 is so overpowered it is actually starting to ruin major bosses for me. I was quite intimidated by the prospect of fighting Maliketh the Black Blade, as on videos I'd seen he moved so fast and a lot of his attacks looked quite tough to dodge - beat him first try where me & the mimic kicked his ass so bad his 2nd phase was over within 30 seconds, and he didn't even get to do the attacks I was worried about.

Can anyone recommend a summon that is a good support option without trivialising entire boss fights?

I feel like the wolves are consistently a great summon, but I don’t know about as far into the game as you are. Maybe the headless dude?

I have levelled the wolves to +9 as they were my plan! There is one lady that is an archer and was considering her too for a ranged option but perhaps the headless guy instead of her, cheers man

I think if you continue exploring and being thorough with clearing every area as you have been doing, you probably will consistently level up stats & weapons to the point where you can do some serious damage to the big bosses. Levelling a summon too would allow you to put the odds largely in your favor for the bosses if you wished.

I explored a lot and was very careful to not lose my runes so I could level up before big encounters, but also have farmed several levels too (to get access to weapons I was just short of the stats to use) which I probably should not have done in hindsight.
