Guys the announcement is clearly blink 182 is breaking up, one final single, one final show Headlining When We were young fest for 25 minutes.

If it happens, will be super fun when it doesn't work out and they have to relearn how to be friends. Again.

 

If the choice is this or more Tom blink albums, I'll take this option.

 

If it’s a one-off kind of situation, sure, that’ll be a blast. But if it’s “long term” we all know how that’s going to go.

 

I can respect this. I don't mind either way. I love all forms of blink but I'm indifferent either way. I love this thread though and it's been fun lurking in here.

 

I would be surprised if, at the very least, we didn't get some kind of performance with Tom.

 

Can you please chill with the negativity and let those of us who have been anticipating this enjoy it?

 

I don't even care to speculate lol. I just have no excitement for Tom being in blink, so I'm just preparing to be disappointed and am glad we got Nine.

Blink-182 is Bart and the rest of the class is their fans, waiting for them to "say the line".

 

Tom has to write on the blackboard "I will not say I am in blink 182" over and over again.

nah honestly though, I saw AVA live in 2019 and I was, for the first time in a long time, impressed with Tom. That being said, I am cautiously interested in whatever they cook up if he were to ever rejoin. But I refuse to sway towards excited or upset either way.

 

I’m all for Tom coming back if we get at least a somewhat productive band who can write good music, but I’m gonna be pretty salty if Tom comes back and we get another Neighborhoods

 

These guys really are the Fleetwood Mac of pop-punk aren't they.

Also I hope Matt is OK with everything! Dude literally came in and helped saved this band when he had no reason to. Love and respect him.

 

Yeah, it’s wild to me that there’s actually fans of the band that would be actively against the objectively most iconic and successful line-up of this band - the one that put out all of their most iconic and recognizable music - coming back in some capacity… to the point where they’re against it even before we know if it’s actually a thing yet?

To each their own of course. I understand being frustrated with Tom in the past, but I don’t think that inherently means a reunion now would be doomed. I think their communication as friends could likely be a lot better now, and a slower pace of touring and recording could possibly make more sense for all involved at this point.

All this to say… everyone’s entitled to how they feel about it, but ~95% of the fanbase is gonna be thrilled if Tom does come back, and I think it’s pretty obvious that the lineup with him in it is still the definitive Blink for most people. No disrespect at all to Matt, I enjoyed both albums they put out with him. But this would be a move that would make a LOT of people very happy.

 

As someone who actually got into the band around their Jacket era and doesn't have nearly the emotional baggage tied to them that a lot of people seem to have, my take is as follows.

I enjoyed Neighborhoods, but my perception at the time was that it was heavily influenced by Tom and what he wanted to make, and that's why he is far more present on the album than Mark is. It feels like Blink filtered through AVA.

California and Nine both felt to me like way more natural evolutions of the sound Mark and Travis went for with +44, and my perception was that it's the music that they wanted to be making.

Of course, this is just my perspective as a fan, and I could be completely off base in thinking Neighborhoods was a musical compromise. And of course that's not factoring in how long it's been since that time and things have probably changed quite a lot.

So who knows what they'd make if they all got back together again? But I have a strong feeling it won't be what the people rooting for this reunion are hoping for.

Short version: Don't stay together. Fuck the kids.

 

Also can we just take a moment to realise this is lilely happening again.

The website literally died in 09 when Tom returned. Hope you're ready @Jason Tate!
