Everything about a credit union sounds so much better, holy shit. The dividends alone man

Been a member of Navy Federal Credit Union since 2008. Never had an issue with them, and the only inconvenience we’ve had was when we had to come up with $2000 for our security deposit for our rental when we moved to Oregon. The closest NFCU branch is located in Lacey, WA which is 2 hours north of Portland. Not having a physical branch nearby is a bit of a downside, but if we open an account elsewhere, it’ll certainly be with another credit union.

I also love this thread is teaching people about credit unions that may not have heard about them otherwise.

yeah it seems like you'll want to switch to another one if you move out of the service area. it all sounds great to me, man. a lot better than US bank and their piss poor savings rates

I made over $300 bucks in dividends last year through my checking/savings at my credit union, and I have just a decent amount saved, nothing astronomical. Like I literally got paid to have a checking/savings account.

  8. Financed my current auto loan through my credit union and the rate was SIGNIFICANTLY better than through a commercial bank

Check into this next time. Not sure if Navy Federal is a part of this but you can typically do most of your normal banking through shared branching. I am still a member of a little one branch credit union in my home town and have been able to do pretty much all my normal banking without having to go back to that actual location.

thanks for the heads up. I looked into just now and they only participate in co-op ATMs. No shared branches. :eyeroll:

I knew of them but didn’t know the benefits. My parents have one I know. Definitely going to look into one now though.

Yeah another plus that I am not sure if it was highlighted is that they typically make you hold less money in your account to use it. I think mine is I have to keep just $25 in my savings at all times. I know with places like Chase they make you keep crazy amounts like $250 or something plus having rules on how many times you can or have to use their services.

Glad I was able to help inform people on this, been a big credit union guy since I worked at two different ones throughout college and a bit after words. It was always great when we got someone to convert over from one of the big banks.

DCU is another fantastic Credit Union. My dad used to work for Digital back in the day and he's had his account since like 1990 or some shit. I also have a DCU account I've had for like 15 years. I really use it now for savings and for sending/receiving money from my dad/step mom or brother. The parents aren't really down with Venmo and all that jazz, so we keep it simple.

biggest advantage of credit unions: they make all their loan/credit decisions in house. usually a branch manager can decide same day if you get approved for a loan or counteroffer, as opposed to a bank that has set rigid criteria/process for approval.

Biden shouldn't run again has got to be the centrist message by now, his numbers are terrible.

Service Credit Union is a good one, but you have to have been in the military or be related to someone who has been

Centerist dream is probably Biden doesn't run, whoever runs instead loses, and then they can be like "We lost because people pressured Biden out of running"

Soo someone poked their head into our apartment, quickly said sorry and locked the door behind him. Called maintenance and the guy on the phone is the only one working today so someone is just wandering around with a master key. All maintenance did was accuse my fiance of leaving the door unlocked even though he locked it behind him. Not sure what to do because even if I demand a new lock, it would still be setup to be working with the master key

unless they give you 24 hour notice, NO ONE is supposed to just be walking around with a master key and poking their heads in. I would call the management company asap, not maintenance. BIG RED FLAG!

I called management first accusing maintenance of doing it because I can't think of who else it would be, and they're the ones who told me to call maintenance >_>. I was asleep and my fiance didn't get a good look at the guy, so we have no way of identifying him

I would immediately install a Ring Doorbell/camera thing. I lived in a complex for 4 years before I recently moved and if that ever friggin happened, I would be freaking tf out. Mainly because I have cats and lord help me if some asshole ever let them out...I'd be in jail for murder.
