I’m pretty sure his point was about the demographic makeup of western Pennsylvania being a good analog for the states with bad polling errors in 2016, not that PA is located in the Midwest hah

South New England? this is the first time in my entire life I have ever seen a map splitting up New England.

Found another one of these types of maps that I like, bit of variation versus the last one I posted.

 

I've never seen New England split up before except on those joke Massachusetts maps that make fun of anything that's not Boston, but that's a cool map. It almost reads like the map at the beginning of a sci-fi / fantasy book and makes our country seem so much cooler than it is. Acadiana? Northeast Highlands? Who knew Piedmont wasn't just a street in Worcester??

 

Piedmont also an extremely historically significant region of Italy :)

How far does your head have to be in the sand to not declare a climate emergency at this point. Meanwhile congress is passing some means testing for electric cars and mandatory offshore drilling. Absolutely doomed might as well rank shit

I do think the climate provisions in the bill are overall solid. Yes, it does absolutely suck ass that new oil leases will come with that but overall it seems like most climate scientists and leaders believe it will accelerate emissions reductions from our current pace.

 

Climate scientists and activist leaders that I follow do acknowledge this but also acknowledge this dent will hardly do anything as long as fossil fuels aren’t addressed directly and swiftly. They’re better than nothing but only if the comparison is nothing (which I acknowledge it is). They are not only offshore drilling but investing in ccs and hydrogen tied to fossil fuels and rolling back NEPA review, meaning this bill will actually prolong gas and oil development. We should be investing everything into scaling out wind and solar asap. Sorry but this bill is only exciting if it was done 40 years ago

 

I missed the NEPA review rollback, so I'll have to dive into that. I don't think the tone I was trying to convey that I was "excited" about this bill. More like just relieved something is happening. I think this tweet below feels like a good summary of my feelings:

It sucks to have did fall on the "better than nothing" side of things, but we need to get the ball rolling and this will at least do that. The work is by no means over.
