Yeah, I can't say I disagree with that - especially when you factor in various health issues they've had. I think with Matt though they could still pull off those album/tour cycles every few years (instead of six or so) and still have their breaks in between. With Tom, I really only envision a lot of sporadic and one-off appearances and random music releases at the most.

Who knows though. Matt hardly seemed to be associated with the band during the few things they did post-COVID anyway outside of this mythical album they may or may not have already had done and scrapped.

 

I'd like to imagine they'll keep both doors open going forward. Luckily Matt has a great outlook on his position in the band so I think he'd be up for whatever and there would be no hard feelings either way.

 

I’d be excited if Tom agreed to go the pop punk route with a producer. Any other scenario, just give me Matt.

 

Yeah, leave the AVA sound with AVA and make some solid pop punk stuff with Blink. Unless they want to rewrite “Automatic” 10 times for a new Blink album. I’ll accept that. Haha.

 

Yup haha I will take 80s blink any day.

 

Dark new wave/post-punk blink would be amazing.

 

Honestly I could care less about when or if new music comes, I'm just so damn bored of Blink-182 with Skiba's live shows.

If they put out the occasional EP with Tom, and only did a big tour every few years, I'd much prefer that to them churning out albums & tour dates while Skiba's still in the band.

That's no hate to Skiba either, he kills it on the record; the past two albums were really solid. But then they never play any of those songs live, and he doesn't sound good playing Tom's songs, so I just totally lost interest in seeing them live.

Plus, I think Tom's figured out that he won't be able to see all of his projects to fruition, but he has a team behind his companies that can take over when he needs to take a break. His touring schedule with AVA showed that he can still do that when he wants. He just needs to be able to commit.

 

First Date and All The Small Things are actually listenable live with Skiba. I'd watch Skiba play Dumpweed a thousand times before I ever wanna watch Tom mumble his way through that one again

 

I’d bet the farm that Matt already knows exactly what’s happening and he just can’t say anything.

It’s the 30th anniversary of the band.
Which used to have Tom in it.
They are going to put up merch that has Tom in it.
Mark has been sick. Travis has been sick, busy, betrothed.

Am I a pessimist for thinking nothing is happening on the “Tom is coming back” front right now? Everything I’ve seen have been some pretty far reaches.

 

I’d rather see the guy who wrote all of those songs play them but hey that’s just me.

 

I don't wanna see somebody playing them that doesn't enjoy playing them lol

I like the last AVA record but considering Tom doesn't miss a chance to drop a passive agressive put down to the music he made in blink, I couldn't care less if he ever comes back

I'm glad Mark genuinely enjoys and appreciates every hit they have

For the record, even though I'm fairly confident there are plans for Tom to come back, there's still like a 50% chance they fall through.

 

It’s been obvious that Tom would rejoin the band the moment he left. It’s always just been a matter of time

 

Tom sure did a lot for the 25th anniversary of blink

 

Mentioned it earlier in the thread, but my friend works for the management company that looks after blink and he said Tom was going to come back around this time this year after his AVA stuff and film was all sorted. I'm taking it with a grain of salt but he says they're all secretly recording atm and will drop a surprise single to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

 

Would be funny if the single didn't even have Tom singing in it.

Skiba sounds weird singing Tom's parts live...but man, seeing Tom sing live a few years back now (post-Neighbourhoods, pre-split) was one of the most disappointing moments of my concert-going life. It was genuinely one of the worst vocal performances I've ever heard.
