    I have opinions about Hamilton.

Would anyone like to hear them?

Don't recall saying it was, this is a charity foundation paying for the tickets.
No lol. They could have literally just set aside some tickets and given them to kids for free instead of essentially enlisting a charity to subsidize their for-profit musical and trying to pass it off like an act of goodwill.

I think more likely Lin-Manuel wanted to do that and his producer and the people that producer is beholden to financially said, "uhh no we are not giving out 200 tickets a week for free, find some other way to do it." so he did. The creators can't just decide to do that. They need the producer to sign off on moves like that. But again this is sort of unrelated

Sorry I don't follow, which group are we discussing?

  7. Probably couldn't have done that under current NY tax law. Someone usually has to buy the tickets and then donate them.

  8. Presumably, any critics she would be attempting to appease/silence/etc.

I am critical of her and definitely do not agree with all of her politics, but she's still who I'm voting for - which in practice removes me from the group of people she'd be trying to convince.

You argued that such a speech would shut down most of her critics. I disagree that it would be perceived the way you believe it would. That's all.

Please show me the section of NY tax law that would prevent this. Production companies give away tickets all the time to charities.

I saw Hamilton last weekend and it was really enjoyable! Definitely worth the hype. I got tickets for Christmas last year, my mom spent $2 million on them.

Oh gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

I don't suspect many people who be turned from Trump to Hillary with such a speech. But I do think people who may have become apathetic and removed themselves from the conversation would be emboldened to rejoin the pool of potential voters after hearing a candidate speak to them like adults.

I can't tell you how many people I know, who would normally vote democrat, are sitting out this election after Bernie's loss and subsequent integration into the Clinton camp.

No thanks. Got other shit to do. But I've read it's the reason certain venues have to sell tickets at a reduced rate to charities, and can't donate them fully after a certain %, and I've tried to get bands to donate tickets before and the NY venues won't allow it. Have to buy them at a smaller rate. The actual "giveaways" are, a lot of times, a third party buying and then donating. Not always disclosed, not always known. I've donated tickets before, I paid a reduced rate for them. Maybe it was just the way certain venues and corps were set up, but using a foundation to purchase tickets from big events happens a lot in ny specifically.

I've only listened to a few songs from Hamilton on Spotify and don't really have a strong opinion on it either way, but I can back this if nothing else. Also, heynong man.

As a POC with an interest in History, who has a degree in History, who's been told all his life that American History is my history, though technically it isn't , but kinda is since being a natural born citizen I inherited the foundation created by this nation's triumphs and sins, thus inheriting certain privileges but also societal obstacles put in place by racism, I've had a tough time dealing with identity, as you can see from my long winded sentence.

I'm a minority within a minority. I could literally count on one hand the amount of times I've seen someone on screen that really shares the same ethnic background as me: Mark-Paul Gosselaar, lead singer of The Temper Trap, the guys from The Raid in The Force Awakens, and the guy from The Raid in Fast & Furious 6. So I never really expect representation for me or my benefit as much as I do for POC as a whole. But when I see a cast that plays the founding fathers that is made up of the same diversity that I grew up with as a child in Queens and in North Jersey, who look like my classmates in my History Classes, I do feel represented and even validated.

ALSO... I like rap AND I like musicals. Blend those things together and there's a great likelihood I'll like it.. Anyone who has a problem with that could go fuck themselves.
