Yeah I don’t think he’s necessarily in the wrong here. I assumed with his heel turn on Lee Moriarty that there was some sort of plan for him in ROH going forward but it seems like the title change just didn’t get much consideration. Haven’t watched the PPV yet but I’d have expected a more even match than it sounds like happened, based on his and Claudio’s skill and AEW and ROH under Khan have been pretty good at both competitors looking strong in title matches.

 

He’s been on aew tv multiple times building to this ppv

 

ROH in general hasn’t been a huge focus on AEW TV outside of Lethal/Joe. Anyone who has been a focus on ROH was an existing AEW talent. They are rebuilding the product. Gresham has been free to go do whatever he wants on the indies like everyone else. Of course Tony is going to want to change the champions and refocus the product on some fresh talent. Gresham while highly respected as a wrestler, has never been over when in the main event scene and it’s easy to see why Tony would go in a different direction. Gresham is more built for the Pure division than anything.

 

JR should be handling talent instead of calling shows at this point

 

Isn't CD doing talent relations? Maybe Tony needs to just go entirely hands off and leave it to him.

 

sounds like CD is the head of it, but there are others involved, like QT Marshall and Sonjay Dutt.

latest Fightful report says Gresham was able to speak with QT and Dutt, but never received answers from Tony himself. He had also been hinted of the finish for DBD, but it doesn't sound like he knew for sure prior to the show day. That's probably the biggest thing that stands out to me. Whether you think the guy should be world champ or not, its real bad to not give a clear indication of the plan to your current world champion. It affects his drawing power outside of ROH. Gotta let him know ahead of time

 

He was on dark once, rampage twice since April.

 

I mean they took the hottest tag in wrestling today away from him and stuck him with Brian Cage and two nobodies then didn't have them do anything for like 4 months. Don't really blame him.

 

Definitely can see Greshams POV though, if they kept him in the dark about plans for him and only being able to have a match for ten minutes with Claudio is weak man

I mean, CD has been head of talent relations for a while, think its fair to ask why this has continued to be a thing for nearly a year when he's been in the role. And Joey's hinted at him being an issue before

This would probably be the right role for him. Since he's not an active wrestler or booker, and he's done the job (in a harder time) before.

And he can still call some PPV matches, etc

 

Feels like this is about 2 years too late at this point. NXT 2.0 is probably not drawing people back in and for the main roster, all his NXT core are either gone or have been so jobbed out there's nearly nothing left. Womens division is still strong-ish, but, it'd take some MAJOR moves to solve for the Roman/Brock destroy everyone booking thats left the main roster bare.

 

This is exciting man, Trips being at the helm makes so many transfers from AEW more feasible. Which is a very good thing for the wrestling industry as a whole.
