Listening to the SF on Apple Music and surprisingly, they have a very very different version of I Will Hide Myself Away

I'm always sort of blown away by how much I love the self-titled record despite it being part of the bubble gimmick. Some of their best stuff is on there.

Very loose fan of the band, but are all their albums intentionally named starting with the letter "C"?

I think we can all agree that S/T was the wrong release in 2007. The bubble didn't help but neither did the drastic change in sound. Fans at that time could not handle that kind of change. It seems like opinions have softened over time in regards to that album

  7. IMO: S/T shoulda been the third or fourth album, not the second.

For context, in 2007: FOB was dropping IOH, YC Paper Walls, TSL Direction ..

If Cartel woulda released another great pop-punk album in 2007 ...

    Things have changed.

Yep, swap S/T and Cycles and it probably would've worked out much better.

Remember during the Cycles run when Let’s Go was played on tv during sporting events. Forget which ones exactly and was hoping that song would give them a second life in the mainstream, but it just didn’t happen that way. Always loved Will’s vocals.

Cartel and Yellowcard are both bands that released the “wrong” second album

Lights and Sound isn't a second album, but it's also not very good. Neither is Cartel self titled, so alas it's a good comparison

I think a lot bands from that time struggled on the follow up to the breakout record based on industry expectations. Most debuts and breakouts were written when a band wasn’t in the pressure cooker and then the landscape changed bc there was the last vestige of record label deal money going around. Even records that seemed successful like WYWTB, based on a true story, love and death, etc all took time for fans to come around to, let alone a label. That band that shall not be named was one of the outliers that seemed to pull it off.

They posted in the comments that the online quantities will go up after the tour.

I personally love getting back to lots of the songs on S/T & I did like it back then already. Now I revisit it quite often - especially seeing as Chroma is not even on Spotify over here.

I see they have the Cycles priced at $40 on tour. That seems pretty out of range for a single album…

Could be that they have to price match with the headliner, but does seem high.

  25. Went to the show tonight and was very surprised at the price tag. Still picked it up because I'm sure I'd be paying close to that with cost + shipping if I got it online later, but yeah was not expecting to drop $40 haha
