Cartel – “17”

This is super fun. No frills, not trying to recreate their "old" sound. Would really dig a full record of this quality

 

Catchy AF. I would love to see an album/EP with this vibe.

 

Definitely not what I was expecting with the song being named ‘17’ but I’m digging it!

 

Exactly what I was hoping Cartel to sound like in 2022. I missed this band. Here's to hoping for more!

I’m pretty underwhelmed. This band has always been hit or miss for me. Glad others are enjoying it though.

 

This just makes me want to listen to The Graduate.

 

This new song is wonderful.

I hung with the boys back in the day when they used to play Toronto and Buffalo during the Chroma days. Such a fun bunch of guys. Some of my best concert experiences just hanging backstage with them talking music and partying with them, watching bands like The Starting Line, Copeland and NFG from the sidestage!

 

Absolutely love it! Best material since Cycles. That album and the S/T were so underrated and I just don’t get how they didn’t blow the hell up.

 

Agreed, I'll never understand why Self-Titled was received so poorly. It's easily my favorite of theirs and showed some awesome song writing.

 

Oh yes, what I would give to have some new songs from them!

Of course new Cartel is exciting as hell too!

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm also excited for new Cartel. This song isn't really standing out to me, though. The bridge feels like watered down Anhedonia which is what triggered my Graduate comment. I think a Graduate reunion might be #1 on my music scene wish list.

 

I get that Graduate feeling as well, though I actually enjoy this new Cartel on its own merits too. Love Will's voice! However, it would be more than great to hear Corey sing something again, I think I'll do some re-listens today!

edit: shit they only have Only Every Time on Spotify. There's also no Chroma in my country ehh ;d ;d I'll need to drive back to my parents' house.

It took a few listens, but I'm really smitten with this song. Love the arrangement and how it creates emphasis on Will's incredible voice.
