As someone who has lived in Canada their entire life and never paid for anything aside from prescriptions, my mind was blown when I had to make an emergency trip to a hospital in Orlando a few years back. I had an ekg, a blood test, and a couple other basic scans, and they put me in a private room to wait for my blood test results (about 45 minutes to an hour), and I got a bill for almost $4,000. Fortunately, I had taken out travel health insurance through Costco (cost something like $50 and covered up to $5,000 US) so I didn’t have to pay anything, but my goodness what a dumb country. Don’t know how any of y’all do it

That being said, dental should be covered in Canada too and it’s dumb as hell that it isn’t. I can get surgery anywhere on my body free of charge except my mouth. Stupid

Maybe a dumb question, but jsut curious what happens if an American (or anyone) visiting another country has to go to the hosptial, have tests done, etc.? Obviously most countries have universal healthcare systems where the costs are little for the citizens since it's paid through taxes, but for someone who obviously isn't a citizen and doesn't pay into the system, are they still provided the free care, or would they be billed as you were being in the US? Like if I went to Canada and had to go the hospital, and didn't have travel health insurance, what would I be expect to be billed for?

 

I have had to go to the hospital in Canada and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t billed for it, maybe my parents insurance paid though I don’t know

 

My friend who travels a lot pays the 50 bucks for insurance before a trip and he has had to use it a bunch. Monkey bite in Indonesia I think, cut by glass in India. It covered I think everything.

 

I simply do not understand how billionaires like Bezos and Musk can have stories with two significant elements (Thing Happening, Thing No Longer Happening) but still squeeze virtually identical headlines about one or the other element into like 10 different news cycles across weeks/months.

Were the last two times this was reported to not be happening just maybes?

 

How does a train take 6.5 hours to do a 4 hour drive, 250 mile drive?

Can't high speed rail in Europe do that distance in like, 2 hours?

Feels like at least we could expect rail that is just as good if not a little better than a car...
