I rolled over my 401k from my last job into an IRA when I left the company but it's just sitting there and I'm not putting any money into it, and I'm not eligible for 401k at my new job yet. My last company was actually pretty cool, they put 3% in no matter what, even if you didn't contribute (which I never did cause I'm an idiot lol), and would match an additional 6% (so if you put in 6% you could get 9% from the company.) There was surprisingly a decent amount of money in there when I rolled it over

Kind of debating cashing it out tho cause yeah our generation won't be able to retire lol

The best contribution I ever got was from my union job at stop and shop back in the day where I contributed nothing which is hilarious to me since I was making like 10 an hour. After that my company had a plan but matched nothing so I never felt the urge to contribute. Foot locker I've been contributing but was only eligible for match just now when I'm leaving. But on the bright side my new company has a much better match and I'll be eligible while also making more money so maybe I contribute more. I agree with the sentiment that people should take advantage of the free money if you can afford to contribute.

So my coworker told me today that because they banned Juul he’s quitting smoking. Said he went to the store to buy it and couldn’t and I guess just gave him the motivation to quit. I know it’s easier said than done to quit and it’s only been 5 days but so far he seems to be doing well.

it’s just anecdotal but hey, if it changes even just a few people’s lives seems like a good thing to me

Y’all are putting way too much stock *rimshot* into the financial system and economy being exactly the same in 35 years as it is right now haha. You will very much be able to retire if you start stocking away money in your 20s now. Most of us will probably have to work a part time job for some extra cash but yeah. The only way a retirement account you start putting money into now won’t be worth anything is if we have societal collapse in the next 30-40 years, which is way less likely in the US than people seem to think lol. Like even worldwide food/water shortages wouldn’t lead to a mad max style anarchy in the US or anything hah

Imagining that part of that is because there are so many more murders reported now and it's probably harder to hide it. Wild that in our mass surveillance state that number keeps dropping.

It’s about whose getting that data, aka the Chinese govt. i don’t blame some govt officials for being worried about other countries having large amounts of data on millions of Americans lol

that wouldn’t be societal collapse though lol. The civil war wasn’t societal collapse for example

If they succeeded with a coup it would have been a societal collapse. Who the fuck was going to do anything to stop them?
