Dissents should start saying something like “look this court has clearly started passing partisan policy from the bench and dissenting just isn’t good enough, the other branches should act to check this court’s unconstitutional actions.” Until one of these liberals says that I don’t care how “strongly worded” these dissents are.

The problem is the precedent it’s overturning basically said the reason why it was unconstitutional even if students weren’t being forced to participate is it creates pressure on kids to participate because their adult figures and maybe even teammates are participating and etc.

there was a place for a narrow ruling here but I’m guessing based on the tweets in the next post after yours that this SCOTUS didn’t go narrow here

My high school football coach would lead a prayer in the locker room before games. I was never really religious but just bowed my head just to go through with it

If you're the coach, responsible for determining who gets played, you're never not forced to do something. You still want to do what you can to get on the coaches good side.

same. We always said the Lord’s Prayer and after practice/games. I had never been to church before so basically I didn’t know it and just learned it from that

The school should at least be able to setup a "free speech zone" a few hundred yards away from the field and force the coach to go pray there, right?

Not gonna lie it is EXTREMELY tempting to learn a basic Muslim or “other” religious prayer and perform it in front my class every day, just to see what happens.

  15. The one situation I never accounted for or even thought about growing up would be we would win the public opinion, in large margins, on all these issues and still lose the issues for whatever reason.

On the other hand, if it were a Muslim who was praying on the field and got fired and the Supreme Court ruled against them, wouldn’t the left be up and arms about it?

I know no one here agrees, and maybe I am looking at it the wrong way but I just don’t see the problem with saying someone can personally pray on public school grounds whatever their religion that may be if they aren’t making others do it with them

The tl:dr of all this is B.5 appears to be regaining the ability to infect other cells by fusing together those cells with the cells or currently inhabits. That was part of what made the OG strain and delta so deadly and something omicron did much less well.

There seems to be some creeping “uh oh” among the mroe mainstream folks on Twitter and in public policy because of this, let alone the more alarmist types

personal prayer would mean not doing it in front of others/leaving an open invite for others to join you. Otherwise it potentially pressures the students to join in. That was the precedent they overturned with this today

Yeah I was going to say it’s the whole “freedom of religion also means freedom from religion” and that it muddies the waters of separation between church and state and make no mistake, that is their goal and only the starting line. The idea that teachers could freely lead their classroom in prayer while a student in that classroom is being deeply triggered by a traumatic event directly linked to organized religion is exactly why that separation should be there in the first place. Imagine fighting so hard to get out of that lifestyle and freeing your kids from it, and then the public school system directly exposes them to it and the highest court of the land tells you to suck it up. Starting to feel like that freedom/separation is but smoke and mirrors.

Our School District already got an e-mail from the Ohio Lt. Gov this morning encouraging all Ohio School Boards to update their policies regarding 'teachers, coaches and school employees with respect to prayer' so I think this is exactly where they're trying to make it go.
