I don’t necessarily disagree with your conclusion but kids of smokers are unfortunately often around secondhand smoke. My parents used to smoke in the car with us in it, sometimes even with the windows up.

  2. I'd vote for the candidate that would actually do that ...

My ex's mom smoked through her pregnancy and smoked every single time they got into a vehicle to go anywhere. To and from school, errands, extracurricular activities, etc.

I believe cigarettes in my utopia should be banned, but also it's just not that straightforward, really.

Tucker Carlson already did a piece on how nicotine sharpens your faculties and increases your testosterone and is a staple of the working class male. If forced to quit, they'll become dumber, gain weight, and be softer men, more easily compliant (which must then make that the plan of Biden). Also they of course brought up THC being legalized and that it gives you schizophrenia (100% of the time, not just occasionally with those with that risk factor) and that cities are distributing crack pipes so it of course can't have anything to do with public health.

I think we all would? But that's not the point, the GOP will use this as win and a fear tactic to gain momentum in 2024. I believe someone mentioned earlier in this thread that nicotine users are disproportionally POC and lower income Americans. The GOP will use this nicotine ban as a way to may inroads with those communities, much the way they did with latino votes in 2020.

So using this logic, alcohol could also be banned due to people continuing to drink during pregnancy? Fetal alcohol syndrome is very real and a sad effect of alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

  8. This issue, which I don't care that much about to be honest aside, I'm sort of over the idea that we should make decisions based on what the GOP will scare people with if we do something that's good. They're going to do that anyway.

I was curious, it polls with more support than I expected: https://www.kff.org/other/issue-brief/data-note-vaping-and-e-cigarettes/

To be honest, this is exactly what we SHOULD be doing with guns. Studying them, showing how they're dangerous, regulating them to make them safer and less accessible to the point where they become undesirable and can eventually be eliminated from society.

Unfortunately funding for that was cut years ago, was only (very minimally) reinstated under Trump, but regulations based on that were essentially just nullified by the Supreme Court.

Republicans defending cigarettes would not be the popular move you think it would be.

Less than 15% of the population smokes cigarettes. I have no data to back it up but I genuinely think a vast majority of people who don’t smoke, are more than fine with a ban. The majority of people who really care are people who smoke, which is not significant voting block

If people can even afford a pack of cigarettes, more power to them. What a gross and expensive habit.

And something like 70% of people who do smoke say they want to quit. There's a miniscule amount of people, mainly the people making money from them, who want cigarettes around.

If the ban goes through, I sure hope you’re right. I just feel like the GOP media machine will conflate a cig ban into a larger campaign about government overreach.

I have conservative family members that have come with me to Pride parades previously and this year they’ve all of a sudden flipped and said Pride is sexualizing children.

Winewood Organics has been my main shop. I’ll use Information Entropy as well. As much as I hate it, I’ve hit some of the corporate spots because honestly some of the deals are too good to pass up and I’m trying to save money as much as possible. I know there is two micro spots opening up in Ypsi within the next year which I’m interested in checking out.

I was more or less giving an anecdotal story related to the issue at hand, but sure. And I made my living selling beer for 7 years. I’m fine with that too

No one that voted against certification or requested a pardon should be a sitting member of Congress. If the Democrats don't take action now they want fascism to take over.
