My wife doesn’t care for the more aggressive punk and emo bands I listen to so Jimmy Eat World has become one of our consensus choices on car rides and it’s made me appreciate them all the more! In a better timeline they’d still be as big as The Killers are now

I think they are as big or bigger than The Killers?

I would just be very surprised if Pressure Machine sold that many more copies than Surviving

EDIT: Alright, just looked and Pressure Machine went #9 on the charts while Surviving went #90. Big difference :crylaugh:

is Jimmy Eat World bigger than a band that sells out stadiums and headlines the worlds biggest festivals? That’s an easy No lol

While I enjoy Surviving, Integrity Blues, and Damage to an extent, all 3 would be at the bottom of my rankings. They’re still incredibly consistent, but we have to stop pretending they’re masterpieces haha.

The Killers are currently playing stadiums in Europe. I don’t think their album sales reflect how big they still are.

I live in market #1 in the US. The Killers are doing two shows at an arena while Jimmy Eat World unfortunately hasn’t yet sold out an 800-capacity bar in the suburbs so…

I don't mean to turn this into a thread about The Killers but since we're comparing bands, I still don't think The Killers have a top-to-bottom great album. Even Hot Fuss has a few "meh" songs on side B.

I don't really like to throw the word 'masterpiece' around, but I definitely think both Damage & Integrity Blues easily go toe-to-toe with JEW's earlier albums that tend to be more beloved by their fanbase.

Surviving isn't quite there for me, even though I do think it's a phenomenal album. It feels shortish to me, even though I know that it is objectively not, and every time that I listen to it I want it to be all killer, no filler but I do think there are a couple songs that really dip in quality.

The Killers have a significant following outside the US (they are probably bigger in UK/Europe) so, yeah, every album they put out is going to do decent numbers.

billboard only tracks US numbers, no?

edit: i realize they have global charts but top 200/100/rock etc. is what i meant

I couldn’t remember which chart it was, globally or a certain continent or whatever. But I recall they hold some insane record for it and I doubt it’s stopped.

Imploding The Mirage, maybe, Sam's Town....I really like it but can't stump for it being a masterpiece.

JEW is definitely very big but there are extremely few bands on the planet as big as the killers right now and they are not one of them

    Sam’s Town is an all-timer.

I don’t even care for anything The Killers have done since Day & Age but they’re FAR AND AWAY the bigger and more popular band.

To suggest otherwise is borderline laughable.

FWIW, Mr Brightside is currently #26 on Spotify's Top 50 UK songs chart. Still got an insane pull here despite not really having any significant impact with recent singles, from what I can tell.
