I saw DGD with Kurt. I still vividly remember watching Tree Village being performed live

 

Seeing Rock Solid with Kurt, Matt, and Jon remains a highlight for me

 

Not as much of a flex as it used to be but I remember seeing DGD with Kurt, Emarosa with Johnny, and Tides of Man with Tilian back in the day. Sucks that 2/3 of those dudes are horrible but it’s kind of funny to think all of the band’s singers were at that show.

 

Well. Those tickets were a birthday gift to my brother. Hoping I can get a refund? I’ll get him a better present now

I remember watching Emarosa with Johnny on the Sweet Brag TDWP tour. Dude seemed like quite the douche on stage.

 

Thank god Tides Of Man kicked Tilian out when they did and proceeded to write fucking great music.

I will never forget Tilian trying to take a shot at TOM in some song on Afterburner ten years after getting kicked out. Looks like that turned out well for Tilian.

 

What song was that? Had no idea

 

I think it’s on Born to Fail. I don’t think Tilian outwardly said anything specific, but it caught fire along DGD fans and eventually made its way to TOM so they referenced it and Lyrics Lie in a tweet for a live performance of their song Everything is Fine, Everyone is Happy

 

If I remember correctly, he got the boot from TOM because he was trying to join Saosin and wanted to do both bands?

 

That is correct. I’m just saying good riddance because TOM is much better off without him for more reasons than one

 

When I saw him he was just so fucked up that it was distracting. Dude looked like he was gnawing on his hand or something. Obviously couldn’t understand a word he sang either.

 

Johnny is a joke and very much a cautionary tale when it comes to drugs.

I don’t even like him as a vocalist but he could have really been huge and now he’s just a burn out trying to remain relevant..

 

Somewhat. Wasn't their statement about how once he started trying out for other bands, he lost his focus on TOM which the other guys didn't appreciate? just something that I seem to vaguely remember because he was also auditioning for Emarosa and The Sound Archives/Night Verses around that time.

 

I've seen DGD live quite a few times, through all of the vocalist eras, and also when they did that 10 year anniversary tour when they had Tilian, Kurt and Jonny all out on the same tour singing their respective songs. Honestly, that was a fantastic show, but boy did they end up picking some bad people in Jonny and Tilian. Thankfully Kurt is a sweetheart and one of the most talented, hardworking people in the business.

Also, isn't it strange that Tilian was also briefly a member of Emarosa after Jonny.

And Push Over. And Royal Coda. And his time in A Lot Like Birds. Kurt is a solid dude.

 

He didn’t start auditioning for those bands until after he was kicked out for pursuing Saosin. I think it wasn’t until late 2011 and 2012 when he was pursuing Night Verses and Emarosa.

 

even kicking tilian out i don't think these dudes need to be touring until they do some reflecting and figure out why they've now had two pieces of shit for frontmen. coheed made the right move.

however, i am always keen to know if a band ignored or enabled a members predatory behavior

 

Jonny was bad from the beginning days of DGD. After getting into DGD from his work in GROT, they barely got through finishing DBM because Jonny was so fucked up all the time from partying. He recorded his vocals last (which isn’t abnormal), but didn’t write lyrics down and it was a struggle. Still to this day lyrics are made up for certain DBM sections because no one including himself knows them.

They toured, he was awful on tour and physically fought with both Mingus and their original rhythm guitarist who eventually quit because of him. They left his ass on tour, Emarosa picked him up.

Fast forward to DBMII era, Jonny was accepted back after Kurt left and was gonna do both bands at the same time. While on warped tour promoting DBMII, Jonny had assault allegations brought up by a staff member and the tour staff had to sit down and agree to vote Jonny off the tour and his label helped him go to rehab again.

DGD attempted yet again to tour with Jonny for the All-Stars tour in the latter half of that year and he made it a week in or so before they had to kick him out again.


The band might actually be fine with having problematic frontmen and that’s the worst reality of it all for me.

 

Are you suggesting that the band should’ve been Tilian’s mommy and constantly monitor his life so he didn’t do anything bad?

 

how do you take jonny craig in 3 times and not do even a moment of self reflection on that one
