With Kenny, at least you can make the argument that ignorance is bliss. So while yeah you’re putting others at risk at least you’re not sending a bad message of working hurt bring “brave” when really it’s just very foolish

i can also cut Kenny a bit of slack in that him dropping the belt to Hangman was the culimination of years of build. Still probably wasn’t smart to do it, but at least it meant something rather than just being a meaningless match

Id say yeah; it worked well as a HIAC match tying in Cody's injury. More of a slower, blood-less Dustin v Cody style match.

100% agree Cody did himself favors for when he returns. And they built the match around the reality that they couldn't do any spots where Cody HAD to catch himself with his right arm.

  7. It’s definitely apparent that Cody made the right decision for himself going back. He’s been booked like a star and is getting really good crowd reactions.

I look forward to his eventual title run.

    Are You Watching Closely?

I started the match and watched about 5 min of it. I understand athletes working through pain and injury a lot, but I couldnt bring myself to finish watching. Felt bad for both men honestly. Lots of pressure on Seth to help protect him im sure

why should we respect working hurt? that 100% sends the wrong message of how society should operate.

Clucky I somewhat agree with you but I promise seeing Cody Rhodes wrestle a match with a gross torn pec doesn’t mean I’ll go to work if I have a gross torn pec

i'm less concerned about cody and more concerned about others feeling like they have to work through something and getting significantly hurt in the process. what these guys to do themselves is already ridiculous and most don't have the professional or financial security to fall back on that cody does.

You should respect peoples individual decisions whether or not it lines up with your ideas of 'how society should operate' .

If your take is that because of Cody, more workers are gonna wrestle with torn muscles because they feel like they have to, thats some hardcore glass half empty shit

I mean the torn pec saved that feud from ending with a thud. That match was pretty pointless and didn’t have much drama before the injury. Without the injury I think Cody loses a lot of momentum, but the match last night has brought back a lot of the momentum Cody lost during that feud and his eventual comeback is going to be quite the the story if done right.

I feel like WWE was going to continue the RKO Bro/Bloodline storyline through SS anyways so Cody isn’t really missing out and he doesn’t need to win MITB to be over. Now that match can go to someone who may actually need the rub.

If Cody won MITB in 2013 instead of Sandow would we have AEW?

    probably

There's countless examples of people competing in a big moment while injured (Pro Sports and Pro Wrestling) , sometimes seriously, and they are all celebrated/fondly remembered.

decisions don't happen in a vacuum. if cody works an injury like this, that just becomes more weapons to use against wrestlers who care about their long-term wellbeing and don't want to work hurt but "If Cody can work with a torn pec why can't you work too?"

I think it's pretty naive to pretend there isn't already an element to the business of "toughness" and wrestlers feeling it necessary to work through injuries, and all Cody did was raise that even another level. I think you can appreciate Cody while recognizing that what he did benefits no one else.

That element has been there forever and is well established as a thing, saying what Cody did last night is some landmark event that is going to drastically shift that line is pretty ridiculous.

Why can't he make decisions to benefit himself?!?!

Dude has a ton of pressure and eyes on him and just signed a massive, well publicized contract and yall wanna give him no credit lmao. What the fuck!

I love the thought of people who have never stepped foot in a ring calling Cody an asshole for taking the biggest risk in his career and pulling it off wonderfully lmao. Okay I need to go work now geeks.

  23. Cody working with a torn pec isn’t even on the list for dumbest things wrestlers have done hurt.

Taker, HBK, Punk, Mysterio all worked weeks/month through worse injuries that would’ve had a larger impact on their future health than Cody.

Taker and HBK paid the price. Mysterio wrestled his peak in WWE with no cartilage in his knee

How many careers, if not lives, have been cut short due to people working through injuries in order to please a society that worships weird definitions of toughness?
