What part of canon says Vader never ran into Leia before A New Hope though?

this is their first interaction we ever saw.

sure sounds like they know a decent bit about the other.

I meant encounter her in a way that would make him suspect/sense she's his daughter. They obviously knew each other prior to IV given her involvement in the Imperial Senate.

But why would they have that type of encounter? There’s nothing to indicate that she’s his daughter. She is known as an Organa. He believes his lone child died when Padme did. There’s no reason for him to suspect this 10 year old girl to be his daughter. Even with Obiwan there with her, the logic of Reva that Kenobi would help her due to his prior friendship with Bail. Vader only starts to suspect something’s up with Luke when he uses the force in the trench run.

I dunno. The show may prove me wrong and only mess canon up more than it is already. But this one seems like a stretch at this point.

I'm betting they won't be able to resist having a little moment where Vader looks at her and senses something and a moment like that passes between them.

I hope not. That would be a colossal fuck up.

So far the only hint they’ve given that Leia has the force is when she seemingly was able to see her cousins thoughts. If they go to outright having her clearly use it, I’ll be very disappointed unless it’s only seen by Kenobi or Bail. If it happens in front of Vader, I’ll fucking hate it.

I wasn't even considering her potentially using the Force in front of Vader lol that may actually be a thing too now that you mention it. Wouldn't put it past them at all.

I mean, if she doesn’t use the force what would cause him to suspect anything? Vader only noticed Luke in the trench run because of his active use of the force. What else would tip Vader off?

People can sense the Force in other people without them actively using it. And, again, this is about the people making the show being unable to resist putting a winking moment like that in there "for the fans". It doesn't have to make sense.

I also don't know why we're spending so much time trying to pick apart what was essentially a shitpost from me about something that might not even happen, just something I personally could see happening based on the first two episodes.

For me it’s because my only real response to the actual show so far is merely, “it’s fine.” I’m not inspired to talk about the episodes. It’s far more interesting to talk about theoretical fucks up and retcons at the moment.

People claim week to week released are better for discussion. But I have a shit ton of things to say about Stranger Things and nothing to say about the actual episodes.on twitter the biggest talking points are to not make fun of or harass the Leia actress and to stop being racist against Moses. Which are both valid, but what is there to discuss beyond responding with a “yep, don’t do that.”

I start my new job tomorrow so my forum time will be drastically reduced. Let me have today haha

It’s not consistent though. Luke never suspected Leia and she was right in front of him for years. Unless Leia actively uses the force in front of Vader it won’t be a mess up if he doesn’t sense her. Hell, Palpatine hid in plain sight for decades in the time of like the most Jedi and no one figured him out.

Luke's skills weren't developed until Jedi, when he realized it was her after talking about it with Obi-wan. Palpatine was so strong in the Force he could mask his energy. Qui-gon sensed that Anakin was strong in the Force before he did the midichlorian test and saw Anakin race. Leia wouldn't be able to mask her Force energy and Vader is powerful enough to sense it in her.

But it's not just her Force sensitivity I was talking about. I'm saying I could see them orchestrating a moment that implies he senses she is his child, if only for a brief moment. They've already established they don't really care much about long-held truths about the canon (regardless of what anyone says, the clear intent of the dialogue in IV is that Obi-wan and Anakin have not seen each other since they originally parted ways, so it makes no sense for them to meet and duel in this show). It's something I could see happening.

Yet Vader never sensed her force powers in Hope or Empire? Where she is equally as untrained as she was in this show? It’s inconsistent.

and the dialogue is vague enough to support another meeting. It could be interpreted either way.

Like I said, I don't think they care about inconsistency. So constantly saying "that's inconsistent" doesn't change a thing for me.

I don't care about whether or not dialogue "vague enough" to be interpreted multiple ways. Honestly that's kind of a terrible justification for what they're doing, to the point that I'm shocked it's been adopted by so many people as gospel. There was one clear interpretation at the time the original movie was made. Retconning it now just for some cheap fan service is not something I'm into personally.

Well, we are way way way way past sticking to original interpretations. It remains to be seen if this show is purely fan service or has a good story to tell that adds to the overall franchise in a positive way. Maybe you’re right about the show. Maybe I’m foolish to give them benefit of the doubt after the abomination of TROS and the numbingly dull Book of Boba Fett.

This is something that I've weirdly never thought about till now and it's a very good point.

After Obi-wan is done I would really like to see a KOTOR type of show come along.

They should re-canonize the KOTOR games.

  22. Just focus on high republic era or something that doesn't really have ties to anything. Other than Yoda who exists and you know they'd make sure he was in whatever tv show lol.

I mean, even if we just go off of The Phantom Menace alone, it hasn’t made sense since 1999. Like 30 years before a New Hope the Jedi were the galactic peacekeepers. They die off like 15 years later and 18 years pass and people have forgotten them. Despite the fact there was a Jedi lead war that spread across the galaxy. People who were alive during the Clone Wars are still alive. It’s been weird for a long time.

I say go forward. Even the Acolyte’s premise is about how the galaxy was set up to be the way it was in Phantom Menace. They can say there’s no Skywalkers involved all they want, but by their own admission it’s to set the table for that story. If they went to the future they could do anything they want to. It’s time to go forward with the franchise, we have gone back a ton now.

time is kinda arbitrary if there are always empire/sith and jedi

and i always thought it would be a plausible and simple explanation that so many planets in SW are backwater enough that maybe many people dont know first hand about the jedi

id take kotor period stuff. id take anything i could get that was decoupled from skywalker stuff. and the prequels made me hate Yoda.
