With less than a month until release, I can't think of why we haven't had a song premiered yet. Hopefully soon.

 

I thought that odd too. It seems like this is an album they're kind of putting out for the fans, rather than a full-on release maybe? I don't think the quality will be any less, but it doesn't seem like there's been a lot of promotion or anything yet. I hope to hear something soon too!

 

I'm starting to think he's unhappy with Nonesuch and is just putting this out to fulfill contractual obligations or something. Unless they're waiting on a video, it's super weird we haven't gotten the single yet. They pushed "hundreds of ways" months before Upside Down Mountain dropped.

 

Hmm that's possible, but I think I recall hearing him talk about how when he makes record deals, it's for one record at at time. Could have been different this time though.

For sure, which is why it's weird we haven't heard a peep from this new album. Someone posted on reddit that Oberst wrote a new record with James Felice as well..

 

He's previously said that he only makes record deals for one album at a time, so I don't think it's a problem with nonesuch.

Also, I really enjoyed that interview with New York magazine. That's the most personal he's gotten in a while. I was concerned about his well-being since his recent health issues, so it's nice to have some insight about that (but I would only want that if he were comfortable sharing it). Counting down the days until the new album arrives!

Not typically a huge fan of his, but I really enjoyed my first listen of this.

 

I'm liking it quite a bit too. It's cool how he really committed to the minimal instrumentation. It sounds almost like early Bob Dylan at times.
