Does he realize he's making Travis look worse by saying that

With The Academy Is coming back, I'm wondering if anything came of this.

what I remember is this from his wife or ex-wife and realizing that I shouldn't be prodding around in their personal lives

I watched some of the Billboard Music Awards last night and seeing Morgan and Travis (and even the tribute to Michael Jackson) performing like nothing ever happened was just so…gross and just shows how shitty people like them are never really held accountable for their actions and are so quickly given opportunities like this in the blink of an eye.

A bunch of people died at a festival put on by Travis, Morgan said the N word, Michael is an alleged abuser, and NBC doesn’t think twice about including any of them (or celebrations of them) on the show?

This isn't really meant to be provocative or anything but what else can Travis really do? He paid for the funerals of the victims and apparently donated a lot of money to the families. I get that he should have stopped the show when he saw ambulances in the crowd but I hate how 100% of the blame has fallen off of Live Nation and onto him

Unless this is about something totally unrelated to the festival disaster

  9. Well, one answer is that he could give the public time before putting himself on such a massive platform. It's a question of kindness and empathy imo, not about fault or blame.

This isn't about legality or anything else. It's kind of about giving the families of the victims space. It's barely been half a year, and their grief is very much ongoing and there has not appeared to be a lot of accountability or restitution from anyone involved, which makes it hard to actually go through the grieving process because of the added layer of injustice. So they are likely feeling stuck, which heightens emotions. As the most public face of what happened, he's going to be triggering for a lot of them whether that's fair or not. It's not really about fairness, because nothing about this situation was fair. And I agree with you in the specific sense that LiveNation was able to wash their hands of this WAY too easily.

Obviously that's not the way things have worked out. But from where I'm sitting, that's an answer to "what else Travis can really do".

Edit: I forgot to add this but also, there are a LOT of artists who could've performed that don't have this stigma attached right now, whose presence wouldn't have caused any additional pain. So for the awards show to elevate him in this moment despite that probably feels pretty intentional and cruel for those families as well. Just worth noting.

  11. It's tragically ironic that the most significant long term effect of the Cincinnati crowd crush and similar incidents like Altamont is (along with the end of GA in arenas) its contribution via rising insurance prices to the centralization and corporatization of concert promotion into companies like LiveNation - who just end up doing the same shit but care even less about the resulting legal consequences and pass any fines they might get directly to you. LiveNation, btw, bought and continues to operate the promoter that got sued over Cincinnati.

Well said, I didn’t really think of the angle that seeing him back this soon may be triggering for the families of the victims. I guess there’s no real good answer for when the “right” time would be though which makes it a bit tricky; some of the families may be okay with it now and some probably never want to see his face again. Considering your point though I fully agree that he probably should have taken more time away though

"The next day, he publicly announced his departure from the band."

^ isn't he still in the band? A quick Google search didn't bring up anything.

Does it say somewhere that I missed that it's Real Estate they're referring to, or like was it posted somewhere else? Or is it narrowing
down the option through the dates and time? Not trying to negate anything at all, just seeing if I missed something.

    Ah.

The "he publicly left the band" part is throwing me cause, and I don't follow Real Estate so maybe I missed his departure and re-joining, but it seems Alex never left Real Estate? Or maybe their Wiki page isn't up to date. Just seems like maybe it could be another band?

  19. 'Alex, a 27 year old bassist in an indie rock band'. It's almost certainly him. Also yeah he's still in the band. Matt Mondanile left in 2016.

Is it possible that she's using a different name to avoid potential defamation? Why would she say he left the band when he very clearly did not? I'm not doubting that this is a real thing that happened, but looking at this and stating confidently "this is Alex from Real Estate" when no other tweets/blogs/articles are suggesting the same thing feels pretty irresponsible
