Maybe they’re doing a micro fests or events throughout the summer and the preparty was a test run to see if it was achievable.

They still haven’t addressed what happened with Gang of Four.

I find it real hard to believe they will move RF out of Chicago. Being in the city is a huge part of Riot Fest.

It would be cool if they actually buy a venue and then do all their shows there instead of jut booking and promoting shows for other venues.

I looked into this and couldn't find anything, but it's possible the sale didn't go through yet

I think Concord was originally bought by Riot, Spring Awakening and another festival as a joint purchase.

Concord owner is also the owner of Radius and the new Salt Shed. If Riot is invovled maybe they are planning soemthing there?

The Salt Shed has lots of shows in August but just 3 at the end of September, so they can make some shows in there

Riot did not appear to have ever owned the Concord, looks like it's been owned by the same group since 2013

Seems like they had some initial involvement.

What about Riot Week? Like a run of shows the week leading up to the fest at places like Concord, SubT, etc. Some bands play special sets (album plays or something) in small venues and it gives them a chance to bring in bands who aren't able to be in Chicago the days of the actual fest but want to be involved. Plus they don't have to worry about an extra day in Douglass. I dunno, kinda like a hybrid old Riot/new Riot?

Seems like people are definitely becoming more angry about festivals in the park. Apparently people have been bringing it up at board meetings.

Assuming more bands MAY POSSIBLY be added, Amyl & the Sniffers just got added to the Sunday of Primavera LA.. I don't think they are getting the NIN flight treatment, but could maybe play Friday I guess?

i beg riot to give them the NIN treatment and get them on friday. missing out on booking one of the better new purely punk bands in a awhile would be a big goof in my book. they should be on lineups with descendents and alkaline trio...not James blake, haha

The end of the LTJ/Bowling for Soup tour feeds right into Riot Fest. A little surprised BFS isn't playing Riot.

That is weird. Maybe they’ll be a part of the rumored second wave? Because that LTJ/BFS/Aquabats tour has a Chicago date. Maybe they can’t be announced until later on.

I’m also surprised Bowling For Soup hasn’t played Riot at all, period

I'm not, to be honest. Bowling for Soup is pretty much a Radio Disney/joke band and they have leaned into that hard over the last few years. And they aren't really all that big of a draw compared to say, Simple Plan or Good Charlotte, who sit in a similar position (not as a "joke" band, but as a pretty sanitized version of what pop-punk is). I just don't think they're anywhere on Riot's wishlist because of the aesthetic... And they aren't a big enough draw that BFS coming and going "Pleeeease can we play?" would be of much help to their cause.

A good counter-point would be the Aquabats who do have a pretty clean image and an obvious gimmick. But they kinda pull from a bunch of different demos and are generally well-respected for how hard they've leaned into it. BFS is kinda just "that silly pop-punk band that wrote Stacy's Mom." (Obviously not. But according to Jarrett, people still show up to their shows thinking they are the band who wrote it... Which kinda proves my point. Haha.)

That said? I'd like to be wrong here. Super fun live band and would probably kill it in the Riot setting. Haha.

According to my fb memories, happy 1 year anniversary to learning mcr & misfits were headlining this year.

Well at least that makes it seem like there will be more than just a couple of album plays this year.

Salt Shed is owned by 16 on Center, not Concord.

This all stems from the years where RF wasn’t a great neighbor (and I want to believe those efforts have at least been improved but I know the neighborhood still hates it) and the festival last year where the bars inside the park were rushed by attendees.

I think we need to acknowledge that having a festival with non-zero admission takes a public space away from the neighborhood, regardless of what RF does to be a “good neighbor”. When you look at that in the context of there being multiple festivals per year in the park, while considering that it is a relatively poor neighborhood, it’s hard to argue with the neighborhood being upset. It’s not a problem Riot Fest created, nor is it one they can single-handedly solve. Same goes for RF attendees. There are obviously things they can do to alleviate the issue, and we should all advocate for those measures in whatever ways we can. But it seems to me foolish to think that there’s anything RF can do to give the park back to the neighborhood while also having a festival there.
