They will put the 2 main stages next to each other again and call it a day.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Anyone else find it real odd that Tenacious D isn't playing? Quite literally have a Saturday between Ohio and Wisconsin open...unless they're part of a ~second wave~.

There's 90 bands across the three days in total. 29 on Friday, 31 on Saturday, and 30 on Sunday. That's pretty much three full days. Don't know that there's room for another wave...

EDIT: Anybody else notice how weird some of the poster placement is on Friday? RFTC is super high and Cloud Nothings feel super low.

Given that they’ve got enough bands to fill the 5 stages they usually have, if they were to add a 6th stage that opens up room for 4-7 more bands each day. Not the huge 2nd wave that we’re used to, but definitely enough to squeeze in Rx Bandits, Tenacious D, TBS, Eve 6 and a few more.

I’m thinking maybe the other thing is like a traveling Riot Fest roadshow? Something in the style of Warped tour but with a more riot fest type lineup

To me listening to the interview, he seems to allude it's an addition to the festival in Chicago this year..

I would agree except for the "FIRST_WAVE" in the file on RF's website and the Riot Mike quote. The Riot Mike quote kinda makes it an all-bets-off situation. Maybe whatever he's alluding to somehow makes it such that they can fit another 30 bands (no idea how they'd manage it, but I'm not a festival planner).

Random thought: what if they got approval to use more of Douglass Park and so can fit more stages? I know someone said the website specifies 5 stages, but there's no reason they can't change it. I doubt anyone bought tickets because of the specific number of stages lol. Plus, if the website said 8 stages or whatever, people who've been to RF in the past would know something's up immediately.

I was skeptical cause if they were to play RF, that would be 5 days in a row of shows for them. I know it's a festival set and some bands can do it, but with their age and the notes that Jables needs to hit, I'm not surprised they'd take a day off.

  8. I could see Tenacious D being "on retainer" in case another band at a similar level drops.

This obviously wouldn't be the big deal announcement, but I would love if they added a Chicago showcase stage for local artists. One thing that does stand out about this year's lineup to me is that the lack of even one or two small local artists that typically open the Rebel stage.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just to mess with people who notice that kind of thing.

Less Than Jake announced on Facebook that there was a mixup and they are actually playing Sunday and not Friday.

This must be what Riot Mike was talking about. Pretty exciting move!

I mean, maybe? But there are a few other factors pointing toward that not being the case (Riot Mike interview, the Q101 DJ tweeting that this is just the first wave), so I'm less inclined toward that explanation than I'd normally be.

  11. Anything to reduce the number of schedule conflicts on Friday is fine by me!

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

The big announcement is that Eve 6 will replace Andrew WK as the Riot house band

Yeah, I don't get the sense that it's an expansion into other cities, etc. Seems to be pretty explicitly relate to the festival proper.

Fair point about the "first wave" thing but it seems super weird for them to not stress that more bands are coming. That's something they've always done.

Too, "adding stages" doesn't feel like a big swing to me. They've had upwards of 8 stages in the past and cut it down.

I noticed that too! One thing that a buddy of mine had thought was they might be doing some sort of "battle of the bands" kinda thing. It would be the sort of thing they would do ahead of time and during the festival itself but... Again. That feels more like a small add rather than a "big swing."

    Give what you can.

I hope the only announcement left is the inclusion of air conditioned nap pods. My back hurts just thinking about all the bands I wanna see each day.

Just like how it used to be.

I for sure thought it’d be moving to the suburbs when the previous owner of Congress Theatre was hoping to buy a golf course near Woodstock but that ultimately fell through.

They’ll never return to the multiple cities.

lol these were always the scummiest things when the Congress promoter used to do them.

I won’t even guess at whatever Riot Mike was implying. Probably bigger in his head than what it actually is.

  19. My friend's band won one and the prize was opening for Mest or someone like that in Indiana. They showed up and the promotor of the Mest show had no idea who they were or what they hell they were talking about.

LTJ on Sunday makes me really happy because less conflict on Friday and now Sunday is better

Oh man, that’s wild! My bandmates would always sign us up for it but I’d refuse to have anything to do with it. I’m not selling tickets in which I likely won’t get any benefit from.

And, to be fair, Mest wouldn’t have had any clue who was opening on their tours and shows during that time.

I'm 99.9% sure that means nothing, my guess is they redid the poster with LTJ on Sunday and just renamed it with a generic image file name..

I do shit like that in my line of work all the time
