Heading to Krakow next month for my brothers wedding. Any tips or insight?

My moms side from my grandmother back is 100% Polish, and the family is also considering touring Auschwitz. I have mixed feelings on this. Has anyone been? The history is important. But am I reducing this to a tourist attraction? I feel conflicted and would like some more people to chime in if they have opinions or have been. How was the experience? Were people respectful?

Less heavy, any food recommendations while in Krakow?

  2. I was in Krakow a couple years ago and it's a beautiful city. We stayed at this hotel if you haven't booked yet: https://www.hotel-wyspianski.pl/en/ It's close to the city center and clean.

We also went to Auschwitz while there and it is worth it to go. Everyone was respectful, the only tip I'd give is listen to the tour guide at the gate instead of trying to get the pictures. Once inside, almost no one was using their phone. It's an important place to visit, we did it even though we were on holiday. It was devastating, take tissues.

As for food, look for something outside the city center or a side street, unfortunately I can't remember a specific place because we visited several Polish cities and at this point I've forgotten.

Have a nice time in the city and at your brother's wedding!

A very powerful place if you know the history and remember your roots. I wanted to go there for a long time, and when I had the opportunity to visit Krakow, I decided to go. I bought in Schloss Neuschwanstein im Ostallgäu an electric train ticket for the morning and was already in a hurry to be there in an hour, at the same time we were going to travel. We are not Polish, have no relatives there, but lived there for a long time and then moved there. A little walk and we were there. Expectations were not justified. The soul was touched a little - mostly the pictures of prisoners. The rest... All a typical museum, where, according to the guide, there is not much original stuff. But there are no more such places in the world, so you can and should visit once. And the Poles think that without the Russians, Hitler would have turned them into soap. So study history well.
