Yes, but divorces have never stopped a lot of artists to eventually reunite.. that's a wait and let time heal wounds situation.

Cypress Hill and Beach Goons are out.

I'm starting to think Chicago doesn't have enough festivals

I saw Cypress Hill were playing a festival in Victoria, BC on Riot weekend.. so I figured they were pretty unlikely after that.

Blink with Tom is inevitable. The other two are in the "eh, maybe" category. I can't speak to Sonic Youth but I think No Doubt has a few more years before that's a possibility.

This would be big, but certainly not headliner or even direct support level. Probably just below that.

The Flaming Lips, Ween, and Neutral Milk Hotel confirmed! My own personal hell!

Also, Riot doesn't HAVE to have a big reunion as one of their headliners, even though it's a small part of the gimmick.. there's still many bands for many years that could be headliners... I wouldn't fret

Yeah, I was just curious whats the next possible reunion that Riot could pull off.

Of course they don't have to do that. But it's something they've generally done since 2013. Reunions and rare-gets are a major part of the whole thing.

    2013: The Replacements
    2014: N/A
2015: No Doubt (with SOAD and the Prodigy as rare-gets)
    2016: The Misfits
    2017: Jawbreaker
    2018: N/A
    2019: Bikini Kill
    2021: N/A

And on the years that are "N/A" they seem to be heavily loaded with rare-gets, unique performances, and significantly deeper undercards.

So yeah, it's not critical. But it's certainly worth a conversation about "Whose next?" or in the absence of that... "What's next?" In lieu of major reunions, what do they do to drive/push ticket sales? Get back to pushing for unique album plays? Diversify that top line a bit more from the usual? Allow themselves to dip back a bit in size to something a bit more niche?

No Doubt were back to playing in 2014 after a 1 year break, and played a whole bunch of festivals in 2015 before Riot.. I'll give you the rest though

I guess my main point there's only so many bands left Riot could get as reunions to headline (Op Ivy being the biggest fish realistically at this point.. pun intended maybe), plus eventually Green Day has to play lol

Yeah, I would say No Doubt was more of a rare get than a reunion. Bikini Kill also played a few shows that year before Riot, but yeah, it was during their reunion tour.

I would say The Cure in 2014 would count as a rare get too

In 2018 they almost get the Bauhaus reunion, but they had issues with their visas if I remember correctly.

Bikini Kill & Jawbreaker both played like 1 or 2 smaller shows or so before Riot, probably more as a live practice in front of an audience then anything.. but I'd consider them reunion sets

I have a good feeling No Doubt will play again some day. I feel like there’s been sort of a renewed interest in them. I know a few people that are coming around to them, interestingly.

    Fugazi I think could happen.

Doubtful about Oasis, but that’s the dream. That tour would also sell out in minutes.

R.E.M. is one of my all-time favorite bands, but it really doesn’t look like they’ll reunite. Michael reiterated in an interview a few months back that it still wouldn’t happen. He said it was something along the lines of “if we got back together, it would look like we’re only doing it for the money, and we would only reunite for a better reason.” Or something like that

Yeah. Thurston cheated on Kim which caused their divorce and the breakup of the band. That’s why I doubt they’d reunite.

The closest I could see to a reunion would be maybe Thurston and Lee doing a collaborative festival set together, but that’s about it.

Your nightmare is my dream lol

I don't think they'd make it through an entire tour, but I do think Oasis will eventually play Glastonbury or something

and like I said, not always and it definitely depends on several circumstances.. but with Sonic Youth, time can heal wounds with divorces.. also Thurston is a weird dude, he played with GG Allin in the 80s and released the Venom banter tape (which is on youtube and amazing, the Beasties even sampled it)

And obviously MCR for 2022 (could make the case it should actually be for 2021).

  14. You’re all forgetting the most important potential reunion, the headliner in my heart if not in font size: The Weakerthans.

I actually do think that could happen one day.

Does anyone think Boxcar Racer or +44 could be a possibility at some point for reunions? I feel like +44 would be more likely, but idk that either would ever happen

The most important reunion Riot could get would be Polar Bear Club. It would be a 3pm set on the small stage but you better believe I’ll be treating it like they are headlining

Riot has given shout outs to Lolla and maybe even Pitchfork in the past on Riot-type bands to go see.. they are independent, have their own niche and support the other festivals in the city.. they've also booked B-Real several times, so just showing some love

NOW WHERE IS THE FUCKING LINEUP lol
