tbh anything is possible, it hadn't happened at Lolla much and then the current Lolla and 2019 Lolla all have/had headliners who played Chicago this year

Jack White is the only one I see this happening with though, any other big name who has played here I say rule out

Him playing that Kentucky festival days before Riot is what's keeping him as likely to me, but watch me be wrong

You've pointed out an interesting thing about the replacement acts! Part of me wonders if they have a shortlist of bands they can tap into who are "out" because they've played Chicago recently... But are interested in playing the festival.

There's definitely a pattern with the replacement acts now too!

    For sure, anything's possible.

Most of my theorizing is based on what the festival has or hasn't done in the past. We have 9 years of multi-stage outdoor festival line ups to go on. In that time, 4 headliners have played Chicago in the same year they've headlined Riot (excluding replacements). That's 14.8% of the headliners. The last of which was 2015. Not impossible but it's not something they've typically made a habit of doing.

And personally, I just don't think Jack White is a big enough draw to warrant a return. But watch me be wrong too because your "festival draw" angle is making me second guess myself. Haha. If he's on the bill, though, he probably wasn't their first choice.

Death Cab headlining the Radical/Rise stage with Jimmy Eat World or Sunny Day Real Estate as direct support would be pretty sweet.

    Not really

100 Gecs are playing Lolla, 3oh3 & State Champs played Riot last year so I'd consider all of them a no.. Pinkshift & AAR very possible.. BMTH are 50/50

If Op Ivy plays, there is absolutely no chance they don’t headline.

If Op Ivy reunites at Riot, what's next? Which other band would be possible to do a reunion at Riot and be headliner?

In interviews Riot Mike has said he had conversations with Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys but nothing came out of it. And I think there's no chance for Fugazi/Minor Threat.

Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, Oasis (never going to happen but to answer the question), The Smiths (see previous answer)

Not that I think any of these are remotely likely, but the ones that come immediately to mind (in addition to what you mentioned): Talking Heads, The Smiths, REM (though they’d probably be more of a Lolla reunion), and Black Flag w/ Rollins. Blink w/ Tom is within the realm of possibility but (imo) would be a pretty boring reunion (and I say this as a fan of some classic Blink).

I feel like the never going to happen answer can apply to all 4 bands lol
Although If any of those happen, don't think it will be at Riot

Blink with Tom is next. A lot of the named reunions would be sick as hell but I doubt would/could happen

The ones that immediately come to mind for me are Blink-182 with Tom and R.E.M. Dead Kennedys with Jello would be pretty big but I just don't think Jello is ever going to do that...

I can think of a bunch of mid-tier reunions that might fit but nothing bigger/headliner level.

If the Smiths ever reunite it would 100% be at Riot Fest, but I'm with everyone saying it won't ever happen. Haha.

Could see Sonic Youth or the White Stripes at some point... But Riot wouldn't get them on the first go-round, unfortunately. Probably the following year or two after it could happen, though.

This would be pretty big, though unfortunately I don't see it ever happening. Rollins has said repeatedly that he's done with music. If it ever happens, it's probably going to be tied to some tragic circumstances (though this can sometimes be a positive thing, e.g., Descendents reuniting to help pay Bill's medical bills).

I feel like if The Smith reunite, it would be at a festival like Coachella or Glastonbury (the 2 festivals have offered a high ammount of money for it in the past without results), but yeah I can see Riot trying to get them. But don't think that will ever happen

The only reason to give an edge to RF here would be their existing relationships with both Marr and Morrissey. Although, if I’m being honest, I think the only way those two get back together is for an ungodly sum of money RF won’t be able to muster.

This isn't a reunion per se, more of a "rare get" act, but I think it would be received very well if Riot ever booked My Bloody Valentine. It would of course be loud as hell, but I would imagine worth it to a lot of regular Riot Festers.

Screenshot_20220505-074336.jpg A buddy of mine is interested in going but was looking to use a gift card and buy from StubHub. My ticket order look like this and it says they aren't available yet. If it says no transfers, how are people selling on StubHub? When do people actually get their tickets to be able to transfer them? I didn't know you could do that with a non transferable e-ticket. I know StubHub is 100 percent guaranteed,I just didn't understand how it's done.

Sometimes you don't get actual tickets to things until the week leading up to an event. Most Stubhub orders say something like "transfer before 09/15/2022" or something like that. I've bought and sold tickets on Stubhub when they weren't actually in hand, just had to wait

Yeah I have bought and sold as well on StubHub. But mostly it has been through Ticketmaster and there is usually a transfer button. I guess I didn't see how an e-ticket (non pdf file) would be able to be transferred to him through Eventbrite.

These are my opinions and my opinions alone, and remember.. I'm often wrong

No Doubt is inevitable at some point to reunite I think... same with Blink with Tom & Mark and I think Sonic Youth

Also, I would never say no chance on Fugazi.. it's doubtful, but they never actually broke up and still play together.. I think Ian doesn't care about the big check (and he's one of the few I would respect for that, but I wouldn't hold it against him if he ever did)

I think at some point, Oasis will play again.. the Robinson brothers probably legit hate each other more than the Gallagher divas and they reunited, I don't believe anything that comes out of their mouths...

Silverchair reunion would probably be big in Australia

Sex Pistols have reunited like 2 or 3 times, so I guess if there's enough interest it could happen again.

Smiths, Talking Heads, Dead Kennedys with Jello -- probably never happening.

REM could happen, but I can't figure out Stipe.

On a lesser level.. Pogues I guess are possible, not sure how big that would be... they reunited like 10 years and it wasn't a huge thing at least in the States from what I remember, but you put reunion in front of any gig now and it's bigger at first then it has any right to be.

oh and Andy's favorite band, Neutral Milk Hotel will probably happen again at some point when Magnum comes out of hibernation... I think Magnum basically hinted they would eventually play again, but it was something like "not any time soon" but that was like 8 years ago

Didn't the divorce cause the break up and will prevent any chances of Sonic Youth getting back together? Or is there something I missed?
