Yeah, the Thunder promo was outright bad. There was no reason to do it on the ramp like that, which was awkward, just do their normal backstage/intercutting vignette where Thunder is more comfortable and Deeb is stronger too.

There was that weird piece where Thunder was talking about driving all night to see her hero wrestle, but, was that person Deeb? Maybe I missed it, but it seemed like she was skipping sentences here and there with important details.

 

Honestly, just make Dante Martin the joker, have him beat Joe, and run this back in the Semifinals

 

I'm still catching up on last week. It's wild to me that Guevara and Conti have somehow made ATT face in such a short space of time.

 

SUCH a fun time at Dark: Elevation / Dynamite / Rampage last night.

It may've been the fact that the show ran 4.5 hours (Rampage ended at 11:30pm), but it hit me that Tony Khan may just be to AEW what Scooter is to the Muppet Show.

Random live notes:

- Mercedes vs. Deonna was dead, which was a shame. I love me some Deonna Purrazzo, and I'd love to have seen this be the first of many appearances from her.
- Post match, Fenix gave his mask (covering his face with Alex's jacket) to Dante Martin. Was a cool moment.
- The women's tag on Rampage is super fun, as is Yuka vs. Riho.
- Takeshita came off like a big star by the end of the Rampage main.
- For some reason, they bumped filming the last match of Elevation -- Sw3rve/Keith Lee vs. QT/Comorato from the 7pm hour to between Dynamite / Rampage. Worth it though, Sw3rve and Lee were SUPER over. They also filmed a match between Nyla Rose and Skye Blue which they said was "just for the live audience".

Any way you slice it though, if you get to go to AEW, FREAKING GO. This was my first time since November 2019, and I missed the hell out of it.

 

Glad you had fun! You had great seats. Closest I've ever sat at a WWE show was 3rd row but I prefer the first section off of the floor personally

 

Rhea Ripley is dating Buddy Matthews.

If she ever leaves the fed, put her in the House of Black immediately. Can't think of another woman who would be a more natural fit for that gimmick.

We have to set up the Eddie Kingston title win over Punk before they both get too old.

 

I don't care too much for the Tony Nese stuff, and i couldn't put my finger on it until last night I realize it's because Nese comes off as a bootleg Roderick Strong. Even his gear is similar lol.

No notes on Smart Mark Sterling though, he's been great lately. Top 3 manager in AEW.

 

I think you have Hanger beat Punk, really fucking cement him as the cream of the crop. His whole reign has been a lap of honour, that win would be the cherry on top.

 

Forbidden Door presale sold out within an hour. Hopefully this type of buzz makes this the first of many NJPW/AEW shows in the states.

 

I think Punk is winning just due to the Discovery deal alone. Now seems like the perfect time to pull the trigger on the Punk AEW title reign just from a business standpoint. Plus TK probably wants to do his own Summer of Punk now while Punk is still going strong.

I'm expecting Page to lose, but hoping he doesn't lose clean. I also hope they do it in a way that sets up something else really good for him post-title reign.

 

also i saw a few comments about hoping Kingston becomes champ. If they do it I hope it's as a babyface and i hope it's similar to Mick Foley's first title win during the attitude era. Make it as emotional as possible.

 

Dynamite felt off this week. It happens.

Fish v Jeff and Jericho v Santana really didnt need to exist, neither match was good...and then throwing on an ice cold main event was odd. Probably should have run the womens tag match on Dynamite and left the ROH match for Rampage. And then let Fenix/Dante main.

The stuff that clicked (Hangman promo, Wardlow's dominance, Fenix/Dante) was as strong as Dynamite, and if they had actually pulled the trigger with Julia instead of...whatever that was

I'd love to say AEW but I can't see it working out any better than WWE for Candice. I still see Johnny re-signing with WWE down the line.
