I might be looking to unload a day one Xbox one for a reasonable price if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer and I might hit you up down the line but money is tight at the moment. Moving and whatnot! I'm definitely interested though.

Mother Russia Bleeds confuses gross and exploitative for bizarre and gritty

As we approached the level's end, new characters began to appear: heavyset figures with large, exposed breasts, dressed in tiny undergarments and animal masks. When I asked if they were transgender characters, Cassar replied, "That's why they have tits."

The game's representation on its own feels grossly, unnecessarily exploitative, and this response is disturbingly careless. I asked if there was any concern in including violence against transgender characters, since the transgender community experiences a lot of violence in real life.

"Not at all, because it's not like our opinion," Coispeau said. "It's free of opinion. This is just imagination. I know it's kind of disturbed, but it's about the game. Strange feelings, strange ambience.

"In the game you will fight every kind of people ... No, you only saw that sliver, which contains transgender people, but this is only in this stage. It's not in the whole game."

"It's not against the people," Cassar added.

This seems really unfortunate from a game I was looking forward to playing.

So edgy, I cut myself just reading about it. Reminds me of that tacky Hatred game.

  6. WB Sale on Steam! Shadow of Mordor GOTY for $7.50 is a no-brainer. I think I'll pass on Arkham Knight Premium Edition for now, though. Are the story DLC good?

Hold up, transgender people are enemies you can beat up on? What the fuck? Sorry, I missed that bit when I read it initially, that's disgusting.

Man, big up to Polygon users for being cool and pointing out to the trolls that transphobia and violence towards trans people of any kind in gaming is disgusting and not something to be tolerated. At least on the site itself, I don't even want to look at what kind of a cesspool the FB comments would look like.

  11. Aw, really? I was kind of looking forward to playing as Barbara and Harley. Well, if that's the case, I think I'll just wait for a better price drop and grab the whole thing. $16 is still a bit high for me, especially if the story DLC isn't that great.

Mad Max is also on sale for $10, but that was never a big priority for me. It'll probably go down even lower by the time I actually want to get around to it. If I can wait for Batman, I can wait for Mad Max.

The Batgirl DLC was the longest and best one actually. The other story related DLC was super short, as in less than 30 minutes short.

I'd recommend Bat Girl as well but the rest are pretty forgettable and not worth the time imo.

    New Last Guardian footage:

I like what I'm seeing so far. You can tell its a Fumito Ueda game. The animations are expressive and fluid and seem for the most part on par with Ico and SOTC. I will admit the camera jumps around a bit, and I guess that is gonna happen with the size of the rooms and the size of the colossus puppy. When you see how beautifully lifelike Trico is, from its animations to the way its movements convey massive weight, to how it has all these subtle cute and idiosyncratic personality moments, you start to realize how fucking difficult a game like this would be to make.

Is there any other game that has such a lifelike and well-animated NPC creature in it? And one that is large and must navigate around the player in environments that are often small? Think of how that would effect framerate, camera, collision detection, etc. It's a feat that those are not much of an issue at all it seems, and how you look at Trico and it just seems alive - not like a derpy creature in Ark or No Man's Sky, but something that is somehow a leap forward from the colossi in SOTC and NPC creatures in any other game. It seems alive.

The camera looks like it'll be awkward at times, some occasionally jarring transitions (but not too much, since they almost somehow look like edits in a film more than a glitchy, jerky issue) but it doesn't really get in the way based on the footage.

Anyone who loves Ico and SOTC knows what time it is - these games are about atmosphere, art style and emotions. They aren't meant to be refined toy products like Zelda, gameplay is secondary to the emotional responses the games try to evoke. But the gameplay looks fine so far.

Now a bit of a rant:

Gamers love to complain, and seem to be itching for an opportunity to let this one be a victim of hype instead of judging it on it's own merits. I hope TLG is technically sound on release and, if not, gets patched soon, and that most who still give af about its existence will wait until its out and go in with no expectations instead of acting like it has the stink of failure all over it. Unless it does suck, but it's not even out yet.

It's weird, like the last game from this team was an instant classic heralded as a work of art and now that the next game is coming out after an 8 year wait, the general response is so indignant that you get the feeling most everyone would rather it just be cancelled than released at all. The way hype and development time can effect attitudes about a game's potential quality is weird. Those standards aren't applied to movies. Terrence Malick has been working on Voyage of Time since the 70's, and I don't hear anyone talking shit about it finally coming out this year. Boards of Canada released their next album after a 7 year wait and everyone was hyped. My Bloody Valentine waited over 20 years to release their next record and nobody complained, and D'angelo worked on his latest record for 14 years and it was a classic. But I guess AAA video games by developers known for pushing the envelope of what defines art are so much easier to make, and missing your arbitrary deadlines is a sign that they will be garbage? Fuck off. Unless the lack of giving af is a way gamers are trying to emotionally deal with the wait and preventing disappointment if the game isn't as good as they hope it will be. In that case, I understand why some would have reservations, but to think this will be the next Duke Nukem Forever as many do is just unrealistic IMO.

I'm going in with no expectations beyond knowing it might give me the feels that I felt watching some of the footage so far. Aside from that, clean slate, and hopefully most gamers are open minded enough to approach it that way as well when it's finally released.

People really need to stop buying into hype honestly. No Man's Sky is a perfect example, here we have a game that people beat the drum about for years and then were let down when the game was nowhere near the hype they created themselves. I guess it's why I don't feel too sorry for those people, no one likes being disappointed but come on, did you really think a game on that scale developed by a small team was going to live up to or exceed all those expectations? There was no way it could.

Well, to be fair, the "ending" of the game is absurd and a total bust. Sean was always trying to build so much anticipation about traveling to the center of the universe, how something interesting will be there, how planets and life on them would get more interesting, and that turned out to be very misleading to say the least. And a lot of feature shown in trailers and confirmed in interviews were not in the final game, or are so rare they might as well not be. Maybe they will be in future updates, but all Sean had to do was issue a tweet or facebook status the week before release saying something like "Note: We want to let everyone know that we are releasing the core game of NMS soon, and it will mainly focus on the exploration and trading gameplay (combat is bare bones but will be fleshed out later). We hope to expand on these and add many more features in the near future via updates similar to what Elite Dangerous are doing." or something to that effect. That would have been an honest and easy way to deflect back some of the disappointment and anger from those who bought the game. Why Sean and co just peaced out and left the internet for a month is anyone's guess, but it was not the best decision on their part.

See, there's the problem: "shown in trailers". Trailers are promotional material, always have and always will be. How many times have you seen a trailer for something that was nothing like the actual thing it ended up being? I'm sure that has happened to you a few times in your life. I learned that lesson with Aliens: Colonial Marines. I saw that E3 trailer and I was immediately sold, "Finally!", I thought, "I'm going to get that Aliens game I always wanted!" You know what I got? One of the most disappointing games I've ever played, it was nothing like the trailer I watched. It was a shell of all the promises I was given. It wasn't just trailers though, Gearbox also dropped PLENTY of false promises in press releases and interviews too.

I guess what I'm getting at here is don't take things like that at face value but rather with a grain of salt. Had the lion share of people on the internet who threw baby tantrums over not getting what they wanted with NMS did this, then perhaps they wouldn't of wasted their money like they said they did. Like I said, it's okay to be disappointed in something. However, there is a reason why a phrase like let the buyer beware exists.

    NMS's soundtrack is legit
Oh, I definitely agree there is a lot of overreacting and trolling from the hatebabies in comments sections, steam boards, etc over NMS. And some of those trailers were early on enough to overlook some of the stuff left outta the game. But then there is the fact that the game's director straight up confirmed certain things would be in there that weren't. And to mislead the player into thinking there would be something cool at the center of the universe - the entire driving force for your exploration is to get there and "uncover the mystery", etc - and saying planets and life would look stranger and more interesting as you got closer was a shitty thing to do, especially given how you could spend hundreds of hours getting there.

It would be like if the developer of SOTC lead you to believe that something would happen once you defeated the colossi, be it the resurrection of the girl or something else, and instead of the ending we got the game faded to white as soon as you killed the last colossus and the camera panned out across the landscape and the game returned to the title screen. It was poor form on Hello Games' part to not even release a heads up that the game would be scaled back on release day but later would have some additional content via future updates. I don't feel bad for HG one bit for choosing not to do that. I feel like, no, you shouldn't always expect to love every game you are interested in, but when that game IS disappointing sometimes it's on the developers and there's nothing wrong with leaving a bad review or voicing your concern/frustration in a reasonable and constructive way.

I would think for every hater there's a person that likes it. The hate just seems to be yelled the loudest.

Also I would think the developers perception of their game is gonna be wildly different than gamers and players that didn't help make the game

I've been itching to play a good JRPG lately. Was going to wait for FFXV, but I'm thinking I might pick up Dragon Quest VII. Anyone have any thoughts on it? I've never played a Dragon Quest game, how noob friendly is it? The gameplay is just turn based, random encounter stuff correct? I know absolutely nothing about it except watching the trailer that Nintendo just emailed me lol.

I havent really played them much past the first 4 for the NES, but at least those were much more "old school" in that it felt more like the text based RPGs of old rather than a traditional JRPG you'd come to expect from Chrono Trigger or FF.

But again, I have no clue how the more recent ones are compared to those original ones.
