  1. https://newrepublic.com/article/136848/its-not-late-media-fix-election-coverage
At a fact-witness level, we’ve seen Trump incite violence at campaign events and seen his supporters assault protesters with near-impunity. We’ve seen him identify individual reporters as specific targets of his ire such that they’ve had to be escorted to safety from his rallies. We’ve seen him attack entire ethnicities and faiths (Latinos, Muslims) along with individual members of those denominations (Judge Gonzalo Curiel, Ghazala Khan) for the crimes of others, or for no crime at all. This only scratches the surface of what we’ve seen.

We’ve also seen Trump campaign staffers and surrogates say he would “pivot” and “soften” over the course of the general election. And we rightly reported as much. But it was a collective choice to stop reporting what we’ve seen and continue to see, and start reporting our impressions of how ably or poorly Trump is clearing the insanely low bar he set for himself. The people who assemble the raw material of this mass reporting project into headlines and front pages and news broadcasts—who see what we see—have rendered the most salient finding largely unrecognizable.

  2. This thread gets pretty funny by the end when he says he'll even let Trump keep the money.

I don't think Trump is subhuman. He may be the result of a Fly-style accident involving Mike Score and Benito Mussolini but that would still technically make him human

I mean, the police are the threat of violence that enforces the racial hierarchy that Trump wants to make even more explicit, so this isn't surprising.

American unions need some work, as evidenced by their support of the Dakota pipeline.

American unions have a really complicated relationship with environmentalism. At least here in Ohio, most of them are, I believe, pro-fracking.

More generally, they have historically been at odds with many of the struggles for which people of color have been fighting. The bureaucracy has been particularly conservative, but the members as well.

I'd imagine they'd be pro-fracking because that means more work opportunities for them

I also imagine they're anti POC cause it means more work opportunities for them.

If I could just forget it

Unions in this country initially pushed minimum wage laws in order to prevent POC's from taking white union jobs. The same thing was done in South Africa.

    That actually isn't true.

What's the story then? I had read that it was born out of the Eugenics movement of the early 20th century.

  18. From my understanding the unions of the late 19th century that fought for the 8 hour work day and the minimum wage, which were responsible for Haymarket et al, were mostly true radicals

This election is like is pretty much akin to a week playing in a survivor pool in football at any given week.

Like you know damn well Patriots aren't going to lose in foxborough but the Browns just scored a a field goal on their opening drive and low level panic starts to creep in.

They're rooted in guilds from the previous era. The modern iteration began during the the industrial revolution.

    Minimum wage laws, or unions?

I'm referring to unions, whose fight for minimum wage has existed for as long as they have and it was largely related to them not being paid enough for the labor they engaged in.
