Yeah ticket costs did go up, and festivals/musicians/bands definitely need to recoup money they lost throughout the pandemic, but with seemingly every (mid level) concert these days $30+ I totally see why people are not buying tickets as much as they were pre-pandemic.

The festival bubble burst because there are too many and a lot of people can't do or handle all day events myself included

  3. The festival market was already getting oversaturated, and (in my opinion at least) this year in particular it seems like festival lineups are suffering a bit because artists want their first big tour after covid to be a headliner.

I've been noticing Providence getting more shows as of late than Worcester...not too sure why...other than the simple fact it's slightly closer to probably the next stop.

Worcester & Providence traded minor league baseball for shows

With fees, the point of entry for shows at like 500-1k venues is like $50 at this point. You factor in parking and other related costs, a lot of people won't be going to as many events.

It really is insane. Headliners that previously $25-$35 are now give or take $50. Mayday Parade, New Found Glory, The Story So Far, Motion City Soundtrack, etc I've bought tickets for in the last few months. I usually go to 50ish shows a year, but that's def gonna start dropping unfortunately

Yeah, I prefer Converge regardless, but maybe if In Flames actually played stuff from their 90s era, and had it be most of the set I would be down. Play December Flower please and thank you.

I’m aging myself but, we got back just 10-15 years ago and all the metal and punk shows after fees in the door were like $18-$25. Those same type bands now are $30-$55 people just don’t have that kind of money to spend freely, they have to pick and choose.

the festival thing too is that for those big festivals you have to rely on some people traveling and when every major city has one if not multiple fests every year people don’t have to travel.

Yeah I’ve been talking myself out of going to a lot of shows lately because of the costs. Only really wanna go to shows if it’s someone I’ve never seen before and I’m dying to see. Otherwise it just doesn’t feel too worth it for me

Yeah, I haven't gone to an arena show since 2017 because the prices are just too much, and ever since the pandemic I've only gone to a couple club shows a month.

Like my date of the Sum 41/Simple Plan tour comes out to $62 after fees, which boggles the mind. Warped Tour 2016 had both those bands, plus dozens more, and cost less than that.

can we talk about how merch prices are out of control now too? Like $30 minimum for t-shirts from opening acts? I get that the two + years off the road were tough, but we non-musical acts went through some shit too ...

Like everything else, blank garment prices went up so naturally merch prices went up with it. Prices need to increase as a result if the bands stand to make a similar amount of money as they did before the pandemic.

Yeah, it's not fair to blame the individual bands, the economy in general isn't great.

And it also doesn't help that some headliner touring bands make the opener match the price of their merch, specially when it comes to bigger bands, and when they tour arenas the smaller bands have to give a cut to the venues as they hire their own merch people.

I blame this on LiveNation running independent venues out of business.

It’s not just a live nation issue. Portland is all independent venues and tickets are still around $40-60 for tickets for most shows at large clubs. It’s the whole live event industry in general. I’m just glad live nation hasn’t opened any venues here though I expect that to change. They were supposed to open a HOB before Covid killed those plans and they already took over there first venue in Oregon last year.

I typically go to about 1-2 club shows a month so far this year I’ve been to Mayday Parade, The Wonder Years, Scary Kids Scaring Kids/DRUGS, Boston Manor and The Amity Affliction all of them have been sold out or atleast had decent turnout besides Boston Manor and all merch was 25 besides Boston Manor and TAA theirs was 30 idk if it has to do with them being from over seas or not.

Deathcore outfit Dr. Acula have announced a July headlining tour with Curses and p.s.you’redead. That trek is one of the most ambitious runs Dr. Acula have undertaken since returning in 2019. The dates for it include:

07/15 Philadelphia, PA – The Fire
    07/16 Frederick, MD – 611 Cafe
07/17 Pittsburgh, PA – Persevering Underground
07/29 Rochester, NY – Montage Music Hall
07/30 Manchester, NH – Jewel Music Venue
    07/31 Providence, RI – Alchemy

I remember wanting to like this band because they were named after my favorite Mitch Hedberg joke. They weren't my style but I still respect the name.

Yeah I’m paying minimum $20 when I go to a show at an independent venue these days, and more often than not it’s closer to $30+. It’s fine for one show every so often, but when a lot of my faves are coming through it’s a lot.

  25. I love calling those dates part of an "ambitious run" in any context at all.
