I think there’s a difference between claiming he’s an alcoholic and just…reporting what is happening on stage. The latter is what I feel you were doing, and what I feel others have been doing as well.

People can absolutely wear whatever shoes they want. I don't think Kississippi's Tweet was posted in 100% seriousness, jokey shitposty sarcastic stuff like that is part of their Twitter brand haha

I was mostly going off Twitter and reddit comments. Some of the comments in this thread, including the attached pic that's been deleted.

lol another thread on this site with people playing armchair psychiatrist. never change.

  8. it's one thing to be concerned but the armchair psychiatrists are indeed at it again

  9. I am still unsure of who is doing that simply by posting sources (which were requested lol), honestly think it's weirder that people love a reason to be passive aggressive around here

they didn't specify where it was happening, could be talking about reddit for all we know.

that said people fucking love to get on their high horse around here, that's for sure.

I'm sorry but the idea that talking about the correlation between Conor drinking and Conor acting goofy onstage and online making somebody an "armchair psychologist" is real silly. Yeah a lot of people are blowing it out of proportion but it makes sense to look at the stories coming out of a lot of the recent shows and wonder if dude needs to chill out a little bit.

It's a joke (but also there's some truth) to say that spending over a decade on this site has maxed out my emotional intelligence because the mere act of posting here, in any capacity, is likely to aggro someone.

I don't listen to Conor Oberst outside of Desaparecidos, so I don't know much about him as a person. I find everything going on right now very fascinating.

I don’t think it’s that weird for ppl who have been following a band for 2 decades to say Conor seems different than he has in the past but ymmv

I agree there’s nothing productive about the gasp Conor was drunk stuff (which for the record I don’t think anyone here is really doing) but imo there’s a large middle ground in between pearl clutching and armchair psychology where it feels reasonable to me to be like “dude seems a bit rough in a way he didn’t used to, hope he’s alright.”

i mean, my point is it isn’t that different from him in the past? conor was pretty openly big time messed up on cocaine while performing in the pre-cassadaga era and yet he still put out great music and is around a decade+ later? it’s none of our business lol, leave him alone

I agree it’s none of our business to diagnose whether he is an alcoholic or not, and for the record I saw no one doing that here or in the Bright Eyes thread (I can’t speak for posts on other platforms), but people merely just reporting what is happening on stage, and showing some concern because they see what he is doing and just want the best for him (I think we are all on the same page here and hope nothing bad ever happens), doesn’t seem like armchair psychology or pearl clutching. It just seems like basic human compassion and concern.

I’m sorry I must have woken up in an alternate reality where speculating on other peoples mental well being from behind a screen isn’t armchair psychiatry, carry on then

is it the same for you? Prestigious

There's also been a bunch of people saying Conor's been fine at more recent shows (and even differing opinions of the same shows others were concerned about), but that doesn't really get taken seriously. It's almost like people are searching for a reason to be concerned. I was wondering about it before I saw them this weekend because of what people were posting, but both shows were great (especially Friday's). He was probably more drunk on Saturday, but it really didn't affect the performance or make me worried for his well-being.

I mean if you want to look at what people are saying about his conduct at shows and say it's cool and normal that's fine, there's nothing really wrong with that, but I'm not sure what's difficult to understand about why some people are raising an eyebrow. And yeah, Conor has been like this for years and years but that doesn't exactly make it better, lol. For the record I'm not really worried about him or trying to wag my finger but enough people have commented on his behavior recently that it's not exactly shocking why people are talking about it.

  23. I don't think posting information/reports about odd behavior at shows is the same is speculating, though. In no way am I trying to say what, if anything, is up with Conor. Someone asked for a source and a few posters obliged.

Just seems like an overreaction. He's acting odd enough that multiple fans in different places have noticed. Nobody's trying to diagnose the guy and hoping he's okay hardly warrants being met with aggression.

Not really sure how saying "people have been saying he's been really drunk and messy at shows" is "speculating on other peoples mental well being." Closest anyone has gotten to that has literally been "hope he's ok" which certainly does not rise to the level of "armchair psychiatry" nor should it inspire any kind of aggro defensiveness. Also, armchair psychiatry is most harmful when its done by people in someone's life, who are giving advice or treating someone in such a way as to affect their lives, not by anonymous commenters on a message board about a famous person who'll never read it.
