New Nekrogoblicon is half awesome / half cheesy ass fuck. So it's pretty much just a Nekrogoblicon record. Lol

Digging the new Cult of Luna a bunch

New Nekrogoblikon has been divisive among the fanbase. Myself, I fucking love it, but a lot of people had to really take their time deciding how they felt about it and a lot of people aren't vibing with it. Definitely a further departure from their prior sound(s) but I like where they're going with the whole "whimsical circus music with existentially depressing and absurdist lyrics" schtick.

Saw that there was a band specific thread for them but that it hasn’t been touched since early 2021 so figured I’d post this in here since this thread is updated more often:

Diving into my first Black Sabbath discography run. I have no idea why, I was scrolling through lists of artists and thought, “goddamn, 19 studio albums? Let’s see what they’re like.”

Black Sabbath is definitely one those bands I’ve probably heard 20 songs from them but won’t know that it’s a Black Sabbath song until I hear it on the discography run. And probably 5-10 songs that I do know are theirs from radio play. when I was a kid.

It's funny how there's more "bad" Black Sabbath albums than good ones, but that fact is mitigated by both the good ones being absolutely fucking ESSENTIAL, and the latter career records saw so many lineup changes that you could make a solid case for them being Black Sabbath in name only. Especially since at least one of them was intended to be a Tony Iommi solo album.

I should note that I put "bad" in quotes because most of those records are still worth a listen imo, save for "Tyr", "Cross Purposes", and "Forbidden". (That last one being especially bad). "Headless Cross" is a legitimately good album, "Eternal Idol" has some good cuts, and great Iommi riffs. The final two Ozzy albums (before his return on "13" anyway) get a bad rep, and for good reason, but they're not completely without merit. "Born Again" has absolutely terrible production but a few decent songs.

Make sure to include Heaven and Hell's "The Devil You Know" in the discog run. It's essentially a Black Sabbath album in all but name.

New Predatory Light album out May 20th and one song (the closer) is available now:

These four hymns conceptually meditate on the triumph of death during times of plague, focusing on the psychological terror and rapture of humanity’s impending doom. Borrowing imagery from Boccaccio’s account of the plague in his native Florence and inspired by Lucretius’ record of the Athenian Plague, Predatory Light explores the historical mindset of human sin and torment- evoking the archetypal personification of death as it tethers human consciousness to the realm of earthly suffering.

I only really know the hits by Sabbath tbh. War Pigs and Into the Void are cool songs. Need to dive into them more, but it never really happened.

I really should have added a kidding to that gif. There's only so much music we can spend our time listening to. There are a lot of bands that could use our support that are going right now. Looking back is cool but moving forward will always be better.

I've only listened to their first 4 as well. I'm pretty weary of long discographies. I'll do a discography run for a band now and then but for the most part if I have heard a band's entire discography it's because they only had a few albums when I first discovered them and then I kept up with them.

It's so daunting. Like some bands only ever released like 3 albums in 20 years but when you have Sabbath, Judas Priest, Maiden, etc that have been around for over 40 years I'm like eh I'll listen to the best 4-5 and be cool with that

i have a shit ton of down time at my job so i just decided to do a discog run of sabbath last month. it was mostly a slog but with quite a few incredible moments. i wouldn't really recommend it, though. stick with the first 4 and the first dio album

early RC, Varathron the early greek BM has a unique sound & is well worth investigating

not all melodic BM sounded like the Scandinavians back then
