Let's not kid ourselves. All of these bands became successful because of aggressively hard pushes at radio and MTV as well as the print press at the time. Most of the opening slots never would have happened at the time if the band didn't have a song in active rotation on the radio or MTV, TBH.

The 1975 is the exception, I guess, but I would argue that their success has more to do with the Internet than whatever shows they may have played. Similar to the Arctic Monkeys, actually.

I'm sure the roadwork and festival appearances helped a bit, but don't underestimate the major label push in all of those cases. A recent example of this is MGK. Sure, he put in the road work early on but the only reason people are listening now is because the label is shoving it in everyone's face.

I mean, it did help that Radiohead had a massive single in 1993 too lol

just appreciate that any band of any rock genre is able to still tour. no point in shitting on bands in any of the scenes.

  17. My daughter is due 6/14 so this tours timing is a no go for me. Glad I finally got out there and saw the show last September tho. Even if Bobby and Bill and Mickey don't stay off the road after this there will never be a better Jerry replacement than John in my opinion

As someone who moved to the USA 7 years ago from a country that rarely didn't really have much rock bands coming over from America, I thank you for this comment.

Every time a band who hasn't performed in 5-6 years announces a tour and people here are going like "ughhh these guys again???" I am genuinely happy that I will have a chance to see a band I never had a chance to see.

Same goes for these Hawthorne Heights anniversary shows lol

I don't where else to put this, but it blows my mind how many of the biggest artists of the past couple years haven't done real tours yet.

Lil Nas X comes to mind, outside of the occasional festval run, he's never done a real tour. Same with Doja Cat, her big headliner was supposed to be in Spring 2020, but got canceled because of COVID-- if she really quits music like she's been claiming she will, her 2018 Club Tour and 2022 Stadium Tour with The Weeknd will be the only tours of her career.

Can anyone think of any other artists that have gained huge success despite minimal touring presence?

Lil Nas X is the most mind-boggling tbh. He hasn’t even made that many festival appearances either. I think he’s only performed live like, a handful of times?

Wonder if/when he’ll actually do a full tour
